Lenn, how big do the blackies get in your neck of the woods? They could get to 600 pounds back home in Oregon, but I have a friend in New Jersey whom I used to kid about his local bears. Then he sent a clipping about one going 900 pounds!

He can't weigh much Pitchy, he eats like a bird.

I saw a grizzly track here last weekend, but that's not unusual, I think I have seen grizzly tracks every month of the year, except maybe January.

A good friend was a Wildlife Biologist with WDNR here and dealt with our black bears quite a bit.
Spring is when the mother bears kick out the previous year's cub as she has new cubs to care for.
My buddy put it like this, "the older cubs are basically like our teenagers. Imagine a bunch of teenagers kicked out of the house and having to fend for themselves".
Thus a big reason why so many of them become a nuisance around residential areas.

Ya gotta figure out how to launch paint grenades from your M1, paint them different colors so you can keep track of who is who.

WOW. Glad I dont have to deal with them here. There are a very few around, but mostly one county away. But they can cover that much ground overnight.

Snattlerakes are out already too, time to readjust one's awareness when walking about.

Lenn, you and Norma stay safe! There is something very charming about bears, but they sure can be mean.

Samsi -- I have been keeping an eye open for buzztails but have not seen any yet.

We have plenty here in Southside Virginia, in the last 18 months I've had 3 in the yard one of which came up on the porch. I haven't see any for a couple of months since I locked up my fish food and deer/turkey corn.
