A fitting mate for a Colt
Today, I picked up this Winchester 92 to partner with my Colt SAA. Both 38 W.C.F.
It's a decent old rifle without a single Bubba'd screw head, wood still proud of the metal, and a bore that looks like it did 100 years ago.
The right side of the wrist, for some reason, wears 2 small brass tacks. I probably will leave them as removal would likely damage the stock more than the tacks did.
I ran a handful of cartridges through it, and it's smooth as butter on a biscuit.
Should be a fun pair at the range. I better fire up the casting pot.

That's a really great combination.... congratulations.
If more men loved and cherished their wives as much as I love bacon the world would be a much better place.

Nice find, nice pair.
Re: A fitting mate for a Colt
Super!
In my opinion, you scored the best of the "pistol cartridge" chamberings. I think I have 7 38-40's. An excellent plinker and general field load is 8 to 9gr. Unique behind the old Lyman 401043. It shoots great in every one of my 38s. Many will say this bullet pushes in due to being a black powder bullet with no crimp groove, but I have never had that issue.

"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

Ted, what a wonderful find! The .38 WCF never got the respect it deserves.

I was on the hunt for one. Probably paid more than I should have, but it'll only gain value.

Re: A fitting mate for a Colt
Ya did good Ted......a nice "clean" used but not abused example of a 1892...nothing worse than huge rust gouges...
....as per our PM, now I see why your looking for a rear barrel sight.....I'll have to look around as I'm sure I have an original...be careful with the Lyman tang sight that's on it........it's a new one and they are known for the stem flying off.....there's a tiny little Allen head screw that keeps it all together.....don't know if they changed that on later sights.
What kind of a front sight is on it? ---006

Re: A fitting mate for a Colt
That's Ok.....it's a replacement but a good replacement.....one of my favorites....much better for precise shooting than the originals which were for hunting only....
Here's the BEST thing on your 1892.....it's probably had several thousand rounds out of it...maybe 15-20 thousand and I'd bet my entire Winchester collection that it will feed and shoot better than ANY Rossi that's new in the box.

Re: A fitting mate for a Colt
Absolutely. As you know, these have an entirely different feel and sound than that of a Rossi. This rifle is very solid but smooth, springs into lockup like a bank vault door. You can feel the craftsmanship.
