218 bee brass from starline?:(

Post by Rockrat »

Emailed them about making 218 bee brass. They replied that they are not doing custom jobs right now and would not even consider the 218 BEE as they said the 32-20 was tough enough to make and the 218 BEE brass would be even worse. Thought you guys might want to know.

They tried making 25/20 brass and hadabout a 30-40% failure rate. Thats what I heard from a guy that said he worked there. Id be happy if they made beefed up 22 Hornet brass.

Bummer. I probably have enough to last me forever but I shoot the only 218 Bee I have rather seldom. Whoever inherits it from me will likely be disappointed.

Very interesting -- there must be a lot about making brass that I have no idea about. They do make quite nice 32/20 brass which I have used to make 25/20 with very little problem. I took a couple of these 25/20s on to 218 Bee just to be sure I could, but fortunately will probably never need to do that.

With today's technology opposed to the technology of the brass makers from 1900, how is it THEY could make the 32,25,218 brass but these new companies can't?
I would like some new 25/20 brass, I have a pile of BEE, don't shoot either that much but it would be nice to have some new.

I just figured on the 218 Bee brass, so it could also be turned into 25-20. Oh well, keep watching at the gun shows.

Shameless plug; the shop here has 6 boxes of W-W 218 Bee with the 46gr HP, $70 per 50

While they don't list the 218 Bee, RCC Brass lists 2 different .25-20 brass... but please be seated when you look at prices... :o

If it comes to feeding you rifle ya gladly pay , over the years whenever I saw 25/20 sitting on a shelf in a store I'd buy it regardless of price.
What we need to do is hound Henry to make the small bores, maybe then brass would be made again.

Just for grins I thumbed through their 32 calibers. The last one on the list is the 327 Federal Magnum, which I've been trying to get my hands on a decent stash of since last year. At $420/100 I'll open a bidding war on gun broker first! WOW! Yesterday an auction I was watching went to just over $52 plus shipping on 50 rounds of virgin Starline brass in a plastic ammo box - and I thought THAT was ridiculous!

We've all been watching this craziness for some time and my hunch is.....it won't get much, or any better.
I've been contemplating a Jim Kibler flintlock rifle "kit". It's getting harder to talk myself out of this.

I missed a chance at a 35 caliber singleshot air rifle of good reputation a couple years ago. I STILL kick myself over it... Haven't seen one down here since then.

Well, stuff.......now I'm going to be studying air rifles too.
