In the 2nd and 3rd photos you can see the unburned powder that was blown out of the barrel, burning in the cloud.

Gunny ... it is an 8 inch piece of hydraulic cylinder, welded to a base plate and with a touch hole and handle added. The bore is full length and 1 1/4 inches. The load I shot in the video was some really old Pyrodex P. I poured the barrel full and put a piece of duct tape over the bore just to keep errant sparks off the charge, especially while transporting it and lighting the fuse. I have wadded the charge at times for a bigger "BOOM" and have fire a full bore-size lead slug out of it. The large slug went up out of sight but we caught sight of it coming down. It landed about 300 yards from us and I recovered it.

Cool! :D

I can't find the video this morning, but i usually set this off a few times on Independence Day.

We were down at the marina all day yesterday and they kinda frown on large projectiles flying about so I didn't get out out. :D
I'm going to take it out to a friend's farm this fall and see just how far I can hit something.

For the 1976 4th my buddy's dad was asked by the town to build a 2/3 scale Revolutionary cannon. He built the carriage & wheels, found a foundry that had a second bronze casting cannon. Got it cheap and it went to the parade. Day after he took it to town hall asking where to deliver it. Mayor said you can keep it. Guess what happened next? Yup a touch hole was drilled! Beer can of water, frozen, tennis balls went right down the bore. Hard part was finding cannon grade black powder!

Grizz ... shooting the anvil used to be a big deal at county fairs and small town celebrations of the 4th of July.

Shooting the anvil is still a popular event at South Pass Wyoming during their annual heritage celebration. :D
