Send it here -- I'll burn some powder through it and thoroughly "decaffeinate it" for ya!

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Re: Ugly gun day
It's still a Colt. I'd take one of those before 20 NIB ones from a foreign land where they don't even let their own citizens have guns.---6
Scott's 64? it's nothing to have those holes welded up and rust blued.
The ivories on Walkers Colt are worth more than 5 foreign single actions.

Re: Ugly gun day
I'd sure like to do that. This gun is mechanically perfect and has some honest wear, but those holes look terrible!
Re: Ugly gun day
At least yours can be fixed Scott I won't have to worry about this one getting scratched up...

Re: Ugly gun day
Scott, Taylor machine welded me up some holes on a very rare 1886 and the resulting rust blue makes it look very nice. When doing this to a gun your really not altering it, your just putting back what used to be there. You can still tell the gun was re-rust blued but the holes are gone.
No attempt was made to make it look like a Turnbull gun. One of those, with some use and a few dings could pass as a high condition original which unscrupulous dealers are known to do.---6

Re: Ugly gun day
There ain't none of those guns as ugly as that 2 barrel double shot abortion that was posted about earlier. I would take either of those guns in a heartbeat!
Re: Ugly gun day
If it shoots good, it ain't ugly, it's just a "truck gun".

Re: Ugly gun day
Blaine, that 2 barrel thing shot bad and it was not accurate at 10 feet out of the left barrel. Keyholing at 10 feet is a serious manufacturing defect. It also stot about halfway between slow and fast. Sort of a half fast gun. Pun intended.

Re: Ugly gun day
Yep.
Plus, when somebody takes a gun and drills holes in it or does the other stuff like that, it means they thought that gun was worth making better.
Maybe they were right, maybe they were wrong, but the only thing that really makes us notice it is when it’s a gun that later on becomes a “collectible”. Otherwise it’s just someone making a modification to a regular gun that they felt would make it better for their personal use.
More power to them. Some of those things have wound up becoming technical innovations over the years that we all know and like.

Re: Ugly gun day
The first thing I do with a gun like that Colt or 64 is shoot them.
Sometimes they turn out to be real shooters. If they do, you have the perfect setup. A quality gun that shoots good and you ain't afraid to use. I like to have a few like that around.

Re: Ugly gun day
This 64 is a great shooter. No issues with function or accuracy.
Re: Ugly gun day
Scott, JBWeld would fill the holes without heating up the receiver. I don't know if cold blue would disguise them tho. I have a camp stove assembled with JBWeld that takes very high temperatures every time it's fired up with no adverse affects. A version of it is used to fix stripped threads in engines, like a liquid heli-coil without over boring for it....

Re: Ugly gun day
By far, not the prettiest rifle I have but it sure shoots well and about as durable as you can get. The guy that I bought it from started with a 91/30 action, found a new condition '42 dated Tika barrel added a Timney trigger and fabbed his own scope mount. Also has a new Boyd's stock. The Chinese scope that came with it was quickly replaced with a new Vortex Crossfire scout. Still need to get it out to the range and sight in the new scope. We call it the FrankenFinn.

Re: Ugly gun day
Why not just put plug screws in those hole? Unless ya go all the way to weld em up and blue ( ruining its orignal condition) atleast the holes will be filled preventing dirt, snow from entering the receiver.

I think the '71 winny I saw today would win hands down!!
Re: Ugly gun day
Hmmm, filed or hand polished... appreciate the offers Fellas but I heard a good idea on Scott's receiver holes... JB weld!

Re: Ugly gun day
I'd have to figure out what size the holes are. All of the plug screws in my parts box are for much smaller holes. But the JB Weld idea is a pretty good one.

Re: Ugly gun day
Probably 8-40 screws. I wouldn't put JB in them, NOT easily removable . Although if your plan is to spray paint it then JB is fine!
