Won an circa 1975 Series 70 Gold Cup National Match yesterday . It’s got Pachmayer wrap around’s on it at the moment but I have a feeling by the time it arrives I’ll have scrounged up a set of the correct Colt medallion grips .

Re: 1911 Addiction
If I were tasked with charging the Gates of Hell with whatever firearms I could muster, with the limitation that I had to actually CARRY them (i.e. no 20mm Gatling Guns), I would likely have a long gun plus my 'handgun', and that handgun would undoubtedly be my ParaOrdnance P-14 in 45 ACP...
That handgun has put 1,500 or so rounds of Remington 'Golden Sabre' ammunition downrange without a single malfunction, and the firearm in question has a grip that is comfortable and less than 3/16" larger in girth than the 'standard' 1911 grips.
Although I'd prefer a more potent chambering for Grizzly Bear, I can't imagine anything better for 'social problems' than the Para Ordnance P-14 'platform' in 45 ACP - mine has fired well over 1,000 rounds of Golden Sabre without a hiccup...
For those who think a 'double-stack' 45 ACP is somehow an issue - I'll challenge them to find a better handgun and cartridge.

I had a Para P-14 for awhile , nice enough gun . But it holds NO collectible appeal to me .AJMD429 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 20, 2020 6:51 pm If I were tasked with charging the Gates of Hell with whatever firearms I could muster, with the limitation that I had to actually CARRY them (i.e. no 20mm Gatling Guns), I would likely have a long gun plus my 'handgun', and that handgun would undoubtedly be my ParaOrdnance P-14 in 45 ACP...

Charging the gates of hades. I’m too old but if someone must I’d send my kids. They’re familiar with it. It’s called Iraq and Afghanistan.
You know the old joke. Why are there no Marines in hell? The devil is afraid they’ll take over.
Besides someone has the guard the gates of heaven.

Re: 1911 Addiction
Yeah I agree that pretty much all the 'collectible' points go to the Colts, when it comes to 1911's...

Cool!
My National Match has become my favorite 1911, although the new Lightweight Commander is a close second. Hard to pick a favorite Colt!

Re: 1911 Addiction
Only Colt brand 1911 I ever shot was in the Army. It was much more accurate than I had been told. It was smooth, but not loose. I have a RIA in .45 ACP and one in 10mm. Both are all I could ask for.

Nice snag 6pt! Condition looks great used my 1911 last week on a six foot rattlesnake right by the house, biggest ive killed in years, a real fat one. Got a 4 footer same week with a hoe, found a den, gonna have to gas em out when it gets cold.
Re: 1911 Addiction
I wouldn’t mind getting into the war era Colt 1911’s be it WWI or II , but they’re a bit to pricey and to easy to get skinned price wise .

Re: 1911 Addiction
I love my 1911 style handguns, but for accurate shooting my S&W 745 has always outshot my Gold Cup, so it's my first choice for accurate shooting.
My Remington Camp Perry 1911A1 match pistol will also outshoot my Gold Cup, so I'm probably going to sell my Gold Cup to a friend who wants it, and doesn't have a .45 of any kind.

Re: 1911 Addiction
Wow I was watching three Colt 1911 GC NM’s today on internet open air suctions . One was a series 70 circa 72 thst went for about $1250 which wasn’t bad . Another was a series 70 from the early 80’s if memory serves in the box with papers approx 95% with and old Bomar rib that one went for $1500 I think and finally a circa 1960 pre 70 series GC NM mid range in 38 Special that went for $2550 . And no I got none I did get a bid in at $1450 on the 38

Re: 1911 Addiction
The 70 series Gold Cup just arrived I was expecting it to be kinda worn . Imagine my surprise when I discovered it seems to be fired very little . The Colt grips are supposed to be in Tuesday of next week . I’ll be more pleased then !

Looks good. What holster do you have for it?

My favorite Colt 1911. It saw service in both WWI and WWII. Not an A1 model, just a straight 1911. The holster is original to the gun.

Re: 1911 Addiction
Oh I expect this one won't go in a holster much like my Series 80 GC NM .
But typically I carry the Kimber 1911's in a Galco Silhouette holster . A friend gave me a Falco under arm deal that my 3" Kimber fits in nicely with two mags under the other shoulder . My biggest criteria for a holster is LEATHER
