16’s

Post by 6pt-sika »

Decided to load up all my 16 empties and got going today . I use the pretty pink CB 7/8 wad in the WIN hulls for ounce loads and the pretty light blue CB ounce wads in the REM hulls .

Finished all the Winchester hulls with 8’s . Now I’ll load all the Remington black hulls with the CB blue ounce wad filled with 7 1/2’s .

As the old shooters who were in the know 'bout shotguns said of the Sixteen; "Swings like a 20, hits like a 12!"
The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are just about done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

If I get thru the 16’s today Monday I’ll see if I can’t load a flat of 10 gauge 1 1/8 ounce 7 1/2’s . And Tuesday perhaps get started on 28’s again . If I had my order of new 8 gauge hulls I’d atleast get them all swagged next week , but at the moment who knows when they’ll arrive .

Wow! Been a while since I loaded for my 16s. Wasn't aware of the CB wads for the 16. I still have one bag of WAA 16 from my stash and have used Italian wads from Ballistic Products to supplement. Just inherited 4 bags of shot and was thinking of getting back into shotshell reloading and shooting my 16s on the skeet field again.

Where have you bought them?

I assume you meant the wads ? I bought a case of both size CB wads off Gunbroker . They can also be had from BPI and Precision Reloading I believe .

Yep, the wads. Aside from the hard to find stuff from Ballistic Products I normally buy my reloading stuff at LGS's. Haven't been in Graf's though since the pandemic. They're doing curbside pickup. They may have them and I just haven't seen them.

I remember a very clean Model 12 in 16 with a factory polychoke I could have had for 35 dollars....I was about 15, and stupid.

Folks did like those Polychokes back then.

One of my 16's is a suicide safety A5 with a COMPENSATED Poly. It's kind of startling because it gives you a little puff of air in the face with each shot.

I bought it for $135 around 1999. It's not hideous, but not a great beauty either.

I’ve had an A-5 and a Model 12 in 16gauge they both were pre WWII . Kinda like the model 12 back it was 28” solid rib full choke . I’ve actually been watching for a 16 gauge model 12 with a solid rib and full choke but not having luck finding one in the condition I desire with a price I’ll pay . The one I had before did very well for 27 yard trap birds back when I had it , but I shot a lot more then . We have a Remington Model 48 16 gauge Skeet Gun in the shop for sale that’s 90+% , id have taken tgat one home already except it’s got a poly choke . A Cutts I can deal with but a poly I don’t much care for . I’ve had three with Poly’s the A-5 16 , a Remington 48 16 and a really nice Model 12 DeLuxe Field 12 gauge .
