'Rich,' the Old Man said dreamily, 'is not baying after what you can't have. Rich is having the time to do what you want to do. Rich is a little whiskey to drink and some food to eat and a roof over your head and a fish pole and a boat and a gun and a dollar for a box of shells. Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got.'

'The best thing about hunting and fishing,' the Old Man said, 'is that you don't have to actually do it to enjoy it. You can go to bed every night thinking about how much fun you had twenty years ago, and it all comes back clear as moonlight.'

Ruark along With Elmer Keith are My favorite authors.
" The only thing crazier than a duck hunter or a mountain climber " the Old Man repeatedly said, is a really dedicated fisherman--a man that will fish where He knows there are no fish as long as He is fishing. In fact the dedicated fisherman is a simple simon with a license. :D .

Who said " money is a poor measure of a man's wealth" ?
If more men loved and cherished their wives as much as I love bacon the world would be a much better place.

Yep,
Making a living and making a life are two different thing. Sadly most of use live the majority of our life before we figure that out.

He played some wonderful practical jokes on his dogs -- huge breed, can't remember which -- when living in Spain. He would yell "CAT" and the two would go racing out of the house to chase the intruder away. So one day he placed a full-size lion mount in the hedge, then yelled "CAT!" The dogs tore out of the house as usual, ran into the lion, hit the brakes and fled back to the house, terrified.

The old man had a good point. I especially like the part about not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got. In this capitalistic society, or shall I say, materialistic society, the economy would go to pot if everyone lived that way, but as an individual, it's a pretty good plan.
