VA has a june squirrel season so a good friend took me out to his family's property for some squirrel hunting yesterday.
I used my dad's old winchester model 150 with weaver 4x scope, and had a wonderful time. I think va dgif was very smart to open a june squirrel season.
the gun is surprisingly accurate with the right load, especially considering the really heavy trigger and the dim old scope.

I'm not a squirrel hunter, but thought that squirrels were a cold weather sport, had something to do with a parasite something like that, is that just a wives tale? (probably not supposed to use the term ..wives tale.. nowadays)
No close season on grey squirrels here, they are an invasive species and a big threat to our native red squirrel, they give me something to hunt and my son a job as a professional squirrel trapper..
If more men loved and cherished their wives as much as I love bacon the world would be a much better place.
Liver flukes are a parasitic worm that can make you pretty sick. Undercooked wild game is a source. Properly cooked meat is not usually a problem.

The liver flukes are in every Texas deer liver I have checked for many years, whitetail and axis deer used to eat deer liver as a kid and loved it with a pile of onions . Cut the liver in half, looks like large flattened soda straws
I've heard about summer parasites in rabbits, but hadn't heard about it being a problem with squirrels. We've had the June season for a few years now and I've eaten plenty of them without a problem.
