30-30 gunstocks for 30-30

Post by JNG »

I have a Glenfield 30-30.
Given to me as gift.
The stock is junk, rifle is clean
It was kept in a in a safe 70's- 80's? (he liked the 30-06 better)
Who makes stocks for it?
I have looked on line, but I want folks who used these companies
Pros-conn.

P.S. new gun in future but not now,
Thank for the replies.

Replacement stocks for all models of the Marlin 336, which is essentially what you have, are made by numerous companies -- in fact, almost any company that makes replacement stocks. The major variations would be straight buttstock versus pistol-grip, and barrel band versus capped fore end.

Are you looking for completely finished or inletted and you want to finish it? In my opinion the Boyd’s Marlin stocks are serviceable at best. If you are looking for a hunk of wood to throw on it and be done with it to go hunting... they are fine. If you want something nice I suggest looking on eBay, Marlin Owners or ask in the classifieds here for an original.

I'd check Numrich, and remember that the Marlin 336 models are interchangeable for certain variations. You didn't mention which Glenfield Model number you have? Some Glenfields used a 336 buttstock, with a carbine forearm, and some a rifle forearm. Which does yours have?

It is a straight stock, I'm using a 1995 butt on it from my 45-70. Looking to up grade to better wood.
I posted about getting a new sa handgun. Think I would get a kick-@ss stock instead.
I know, cheap rifle, buts that's me.

The link I posted shows a straight grip stock for $45.
