Shingles vaccine

Post by hondo1892 »

I had the shingles a couple years back and it went into my left eye. When I made it to the Dr. office they sent me to specialist strait away to get my eye checked. Fortunately my eye sight is fine but I still need steroid eye drops. I finally was given the all clear to get the vaccine last fall. The first shot left my arm sore for a couple days but nothing else. Yesterday I went for the booster shot and it was a doosy. Couple of hours after the shot it really hurt to raise my arm that received the injection and by evening I felt like a bus had ran me over. I was only able to get a couple hours of sleep last night. I'm doing much better now. I have never been effected like that before from a vaccine and glad that there are only two shots in the series. I hope this keeps the shingles away because they are pretty bad and can blind you if they make it into your eyes and treatment isn't quickly employed.

I had the Shingrex shots last year. My doc said the first one would feel like your shoulder was hit with a 2x4 and you may have some flu like symptoms. He wasn't lying. It was misery for 2 days.

The reaction from the second shot was just a little sore like from a Tetanus shot.

Better the pain now than the shingles later.

I had the first Shingrex last fall. Need to get the second, but have been holding off with the current situation as I am not sure I need my immune system to be sidetracked, but what do I know. First one left me sore the for three or four days.

I had shingles about 3 years ago. Doc said I was good for at least another 5 years. Why not get a chickenpox booster instead? Isn't shingles just an expression of the chickenpox virus?

I have not been favorably impressed with the 'new' Shingles Vaccine. Too many bad reactions.

I'm not a total 'anti-vaxxer' but READ THIS BOOK and you will have an idea where I'm at with the overall concept of vaccines...

Vaccines, Autoimmunity, and the Changing Nature of Childhood Illness Hardcover by Dr. Thomas Cowan MD

Some are lifesaving, and I don't believe everything this author says.

But neither do I believe everything the FDA says....

I always try to warn people about the Shingrix shot making them sick. Right now I am not administering any vaccines unless it is an emergency. No point in making you sick when you need to be at your healthiest. PillHer got sick for 2 full days with her shots. Both times. She is glad it is over. I have had shingles before. It sounds crazy, but I use capsaicin on them. 2 or three hours of burning, wet your pants level pain, then nothing! No more pain. The redness and blisters go away within 3 days. I don't recommend it for everyone, but if you can shrug off a broken bone, then it may work for you. I did warn you! Dental pain is not even close. You were warned! No joke.

After watching my wife go through a long case of shingles I gladly got the shot and was quite glad to feel
badly for a couple of days. I didn't think my wife was ever going to get through it, she now has had her
shingles shot as well.

The over the counter cream of the High Potency strength. O.375% It only needs about a fingertip sized dot rubbed in to the very center at first. For me, it overwhelms the nerve cells ability to send pain messages. They run out of chemical messenger that there is pain and then the healing begins. Not fun!

I had a case of shingles a few years back.

It was painful and there were some long term issues issues to be dealt with.

My understanding is that reoccurance is somewhat rare, and that the 'vaccines' are are not a guaranteed prophylactic.

I chose not to get the shots and take my chances.

I don't know if I would have got the shot but after having it in my eye I thought maybe I should. I have heard of people getting shingles more than once and I'm not wanting to be one of them. I have had long term effects of the virus on my eye. Every time the Dr. had me stop my steroid eye drops my eye gets inflamed. He told me he has had to keep people on the drops for as long as five years. I've been on them for about half that and would like to ditch them because of the problems steroids can cause.

Glaucoma for one. You are being checked at least every 6 months by an Opthalmologist aren't you?

Rapidly (within 24 hours of onset of sensation, ideally even before rash starts) starting Valtrex or similar meds may really help blunt the infection, but it is usually not done because the patient seldom realizes what they have until there is a blistering rash visible. Starting Rx much after that is less effective.

When I got the shingles, it took me about two days to realize just what was going on and went to see the Doc, telling him I thought I had shingles. He looked at it and said, "yep, I believe you are right" and gave me a prescription for an anti-viral.

To combat the itch, I would take some Hydrocortisone cream and mix some Anbesol gel (tooth pain stuff) and mix together, probably 10/1 and put on the place on the corner of my forehead. Cover it with a band-aid. Spot was about the size of a half dollar. Hardly itched and was gone in about a week. I still get small patches of Psoriasis on my arms, fingers, and legs at time, which could just be small outbreaks of the shingles. Put Hydrocortisone cream on them and it takes the itch away. Doc said I will probably have that from now on.

Friend of my Grandfathers had shingles from the back of his head, forward to his chin. He was suffering as it wasn't a mild outbreak, looked like poison ivy. He had it for a month.

My wife and I got them last year. First ones hurts like mad, but the second one for me wasn't that bad, whereas for Mrs. YK, it was 10x worse!
