So long “Gambler”

Post by fordwannabe »

Kenny Rogers stopped the music last night at the age of 81. I have spent many many hours over the past 45 years enjoying his singing. The songs live on even if he doesn’t. So long “Gambler”

Kenny was one of the greats alright, Rest in Peace.
If more men loved and cherished their wives as much as I love bacon the world would be a much better place.

He had a great voice and he knew how to choose the songs. My favorite of his was Ruby, written by Mel Tillis.

My ALL TIME favorite was coward of the county. A fella named Tommy who tried to be peaceful but when pushed turned into a badass. Hmmm sounds familiar.

My wife and I had tickets to see him on his farewell tour. He fell ill and cancelled the tour so we never got to see him live. We enjoyed his music though.

Before my Dad passed away in 2001 he had private time with each of his kids. During my time he made me promise two things one had to do with the windows in their cottage and the other was to make sure Mom got to see Kenny Rogers. Dad had been promising Mom for years they would go but work always got in the way. When I retire, when I retire he would say. He passed away from leukemia at 57. The weekend he got sick they had tickets to go see KR but Dad went into the hospital. Then passed on January 10,2001. I was able to carry out the promise in the fall of 2001. Mom cried the whole time though I am Tom jr, I was not the Tom she wanted to see KR with. Sooo KR’s passing has added significance to me besides enjoying his music.

Sooner or latter we all break even.
He went peacefully, surrounded by family.
Is there a better way?

A few of his movies will no doubt be on TV soon. Some quality viewing while staying home. RIP
