NO Philippines trip = NEW Parker

Post by 6pt-sika »

Well since the Trip to the Philippines this month has been deep sixed I saw something to add to my accumulation . Guy in Parker Collectors organization had a couple guns for sale and as you might imagine one caught my attention . Actually he and I had bid against each other for it in a Morphys or RI auction . Guns a circa 1883 Grade 3 10 gauge on a 4 frame with 32 inch barrels .

I most likely will send the Damascus barrels off to my barrel guy near Richmond VA and have the damascus pattern freshened a bit .

Nice looking piece there. Looks well used and well cared for. What do the barrels look like that they need work?

Sorry you will miss your trip to see the family, panic buying of Parker's makes more sense than toilet rolls, congratulations..

6pt, please expound on your 10 ga target loads. Are you running 2&7/8" with an ounce? 11/4?11/2? I cant imagine you are shooting 3&1/2" stuff ?
I have a 10ga, (BPS I got for a song) and all I've ever tried out of it is buckshot.

The exterior surface will become faded so to speak and the damascus pattern becomes lighter . There’s a process that can be done to them to bring it back out . The barrels are supposedly in fine condition as far as shooting is concerned this would be considered more of a cosmetic thing .

All my 10 gauge loads are 2 7/8” . The target loads are 1 1/8 ounce . Pushed with 18.6 grains of Red Dot with a SP-10 wad over the powder and three 1/8” 16 gauge nitro wads in the bottom of the shot cup as fillers then the shot . I also put an overshot card on top the shot before crimping . That’s pretty much just to keep the crimp flat and not concave .

FWIW my hunting loads start with a 2 7/8” Hull . I trim new 3 1/2” down to 2 7/8” on a bandsaw with a wooden jig I made . Anyway hunting loads have 30 grains of SR7625 . I have over 20 pounds of that powder to keep me going as long as I’m hunting . I use the SP-10 wad and if loading birdshot one 16 gauge 1/8” spacer wad in the shotcup followed by 1 1/4 ounces shot and the overcard . If bismuth everything is the same except the 16 gauge 1/8” wad and I weigh each load of bismuth . For buckshot and slugs all get 30 grains of SR7625 . Some of the buckshot loads have the petals removed from the SP-10 and a mylar wrap added some fit well enough inside the shotcup but all get some buffer . For the slugs some fit in the shotcup and some go petals removed and a thicker mylar wrap . I’m about to recieve some gas seal wad things and 10 gauge 1/8” nitro wads to try in place of cutting the SP-10 wads up so hopefully we’ll see how that goes .

6pt, congratulations on another fine Parker. I have always wanted to fool with a 10-gauge hammer gun and mild loads.

The boss makes very good lumpia Shanghai when I’m there as well as chicken or pork adobo . Where in the Philippines were they from ? The boss is from Cagayan de Oro City on the island of Mindanao . I use the same loads in the hammer guns as I do in the hammerless . None are stout velocity wise but some of the buckshot and slugs loads might be a bit more recoilish than others .

Six: Ev's father is from Isabella and her mom was from Baggio on Luzon. I have been promised chicken adobo, but only after the Lenten season is over, as she gave up meat.

Baguiao is where Pacquiao used to have his training camp a number of years back . It’s a higher altitude and a cooler climate. I’ve not been as far north in Luzon as Isabella or Baguiao . Far as I’ve been was Subic Bay and Clark . My BIL’s wife is from Pampanga .

I am so, so sorry to hear that you won't be able to go. The new Parker seems like at least some consolation.

While being a Grade 3 takes nothing away from the gun for me since this is the highest grade hammer gun I possess, the real thing for me was it being a 4 frame . I’d still like to have a Grade 2 10 top lever on a 4 frame but this one appeases that desire quite a bit .

Thank you sir ! But the good lord willing I’ll get there in early fall as I’ve already rebooked etc . Took two all nighters on the phone and an hour or two two afternoons but seems all is taken care of provided the Covid runs its course in the next three or so months and travel resumes .

Shot a couple of my SR7625 1 1/4 ounce loads after dinner tonight just to make sure it functioned okay . And at 10 pounds 6 ounces there wasn’t much thump to it at all .
