New knife

Post by 2ndovc »

My dad and his lady friend spent a month in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, just got home before the travel restrictions and Spain going on lock down. They've been tested and are going to hang out in their FL home until this calms down. Their both in their 70's.

I got a package in the mail today from Toledo, Spain and found that my dad had sent me this really cool knife with an antler handle. Sharp as heck and really well balanced. It will go on my next boar hunt for sure! :D

Just happy they are home safe, I was a bit panicked to say the least!

Thanks Guys! I was getting really worried because everything was happening so quickly. Also they didn't say at first that American's returning home would not be stopped from entering the country.

Glad they are home and safe. That is a good looking knife. Priorities are family first, possessions second.

Toledo is famous for cutlery or all sizes. But you have to be careful and smart enough to separate the tourist junk from the good stuff. I have a few knives and one sword from the 70's I picked up while stationed there. They used to do, probably still do, some fantastic Damascus blades. Weren't cheap, but the quality was there.

Yours looks like a well thought out design. Enjoy

It seems to be really well made. The blade a nice thickness and well put together. We'll see when it gets some use. :D

Very cool knife Jason. Are they okay? No symptoms? Spain is being hit really hard; we just surpassed them yesterday or the day before in the total number of cases.

Jay,
They are good. Tested and self quarantining, All the old Man needs is a bottle of Scotch and his .45s!
I talked to him today and he said that their part of FL is deadly quiet. I was freaking out about getting them out of Europe, but he saw what was coming and beat it for the US.

Something about wearing a new knife makes a guy feel brand new again. Probably kind of similar to what the wimmin' folk feel like after spending all day at a salon or spa, or shopping or something. All that and didn't even get a new knife?!

If the mood strikes me right, I might ask the wife if she notices anything different...

No need to. Probably the sharpest knife out of the box I've ever had. Poked myself in the thumb putting it back in the sheath the other day. Ow!

Nice that it came sharp. My experience is that not many do now. Sort of sharp is normal. Truly sharp is sort of rare. I consider that a sign of top quality.

I'm finding it the other way around now. More seem to come sharp than before. Bought a couple of Buck Mini Ice Man, a Compadre camp knife, and a few CRKT knives and they all were sharp enough to shave with. Before, it seemed that even nice knives came not very sharp, or even dull.

I suspect it's a marketing tool. I suck at sharpening, so a sharp knife is a little extra tempting...

Yeah, unfortunately I can't drink anymore after my extended hospital stay. He is going to be 80 this year and has a double every evening and probably in better shape than I am. :D
