Night vision

Post by Pitchy »

I just bought this Bestguarder 6x50 night vision monocular.
Haven`t been able to test it to much because of weather but took it out last nigh, no moon and cloudy so pretty dark.
I was looking at the barn at about 100 yards with the IR set at two and i could see the cracks in the boards and a bright image so i think it will work out good.
Reviews some say battery life is terrible, it takes four AA batteries , i have had it on for about 20 minutes and still have over half batt. charge left so we`ll see. :)

That's really interesting Lenn. I've used the military stuff but that was many years ago. I'll bet the new stuff is much better and I thought the old stuff was pretty good. It was really expensive though. Russian ones were cheapest.

Back in the day, I used some of the Army night vision equipment. The ones available now are probably better. Advances in technology without a doubt. The IR ones for the T.O.W. missile launcher would let you clearly see a mouse at a mile. The magnification and weight required that they be mounted on a tripod.

Hope you have a lot of fun with your device.

I need to trade a few duplicate/spare guns I don't use for a good night vision scope of some sort.

I have a busnell monocular . Works pretty good but batery life is low. Nice part about it was came with mount so you could use with NV compatible red dot as a weapons sighting system.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting this.

I’d never fooled with this stuff until this past spring/summer . When we did damage control stuff a lot was done in the dark . Anyway I tried using one friends AR with night vision optics and I had a heck of a time seeing anything . Then I used another friends AR with thermal optics , thermal optics although more expensive is the way to go for me . I’ve got an AR-10 in 338 Federal sitting in the safe waiting on its suppressor and once that’s done it’ll have thermal optics on top .

We took it out along the field last night, it was a;most full moon and clear and approx 200 yards too the woods.
Could see pretty clearly even with the IR on low but a person needs a rest especially if ya zoom in because ya can`t hold it steady.
After the snow melts i should have fun with in in the golf car. :)

FWIW the longest shot I’ve ever made on a deer in the state of Virginia I did last August at about 21:45 the Friday before Labor Day . The distance turned out to be 286 yards give or take two yards . Did that with my friends AR-10 308 with thermal optics on top
