Rasawek Preserve

Post by 6pt-sika »

Just got home from Rasawek Preserve doing the quail thing . Had a pretty decent day ! The only thing I can knock the place about was wanting you to approach the birds four abreast , I’d be much more comfortable doing it in pairs . Anyway I scratched down 11 birds with 14 shots and yes I ALWAYS keep track of hits and shots etc . In our group of four there was one lady shooter the wife of the guy that gets this shoot together , two other guys and myself as well as a lady handler and her three English Setters . Might have to do this again if I can before heading to the South Pacific  Almost forgot I was using the little VH 0 frame 28 gauge shooting Fiochi factory #8 dove loads !

Looks pretty steep. Even the trees are sideways in that first picture.

Thanks ! Might’ve done a skoosh better if I’d used our Browning Superposed 28 skeet gun as this little Parker is full and full  The place looks a lot like what you’d expect to see in a South Carolina or Georgia on a quail excursion but this place is about 25 miles from Richmond VA !

Couldn't help but responding....I live about 2-3 miles from Rasawek...never been back in there...Just wondered what it might cost to do a half a day hunt? Its funny...I was raised in this county, we used to have 3 different coveys of quail wander thru the back yard every day....with saving the hawks and the feral cats/coyotes, I haven't seen a "natural" Bob White in 25 years...Glad y'all had a good time...PS: They feed you lunch??? This thing was $600 a party divided four ways . Lunch included and they cleaned the birds and give each shooter four I believe . They also feed you a very nice lunch we had quail jambalaya and pie after . So it cost me $150 plus my tip to the dog handler . I wanna try Orapax down the road from them . Orapax has a thing called a “Mallard Tower Shoot” , that intrests me quite a bit since I’ve got a bunch of duck guns and have never shot at a duck in my life !

Incidentally a half day hunt is generally 10AM to 1PM lunch after . So it’s three hours or $50 an hour .
