Fed up with S&W

Post by wvfarrier »

Pretty fed up with S&W. My brand new 627-5 (2.62") came with a front sight that just falls out. Contacted the service dept and was told it was not a warranty claim and I would have to pay for it.....on a $1000 gun. Absolutely ridiculous.

That's hogwash! If they told me that I would have told them this was the LAST of their products I would buy AND I'd also include that I would steer people AWAY from their products for the rest of my days. I'd also find every way to bad mouth them!
That said, I'd write a letter to the President of S&W with pictures included of your 'grand' revolver, I'd keep calling the customer service number until they relented and decided to fix the problem!
Heck a little internet snooping and you might find email addresses for the board of directors!

Apparently this has been an ongoing issue with this model. I found a solution online and fixed it myself. Its definitely my last smith

I've heard of quality and horrid fit issues with Performance Center guns also. One guy I know returned one three times. Canted barrel, horrid machining, forcing cone issues.

I'm done with new ones too. I bought a new 610/ 10mm last summer. On round number 8 the cylinder bound up and when I tried to eject the shells the whole cyl. fell out. I sent it back to S&W and after several months they sent it back stating it was operator error! I've been shooting DA sixguns for 40 years and never have I had a cylinder push over the stop while ejecting the empties. Guess I'll stick to Colt's and Rugers!!

Front sight falling out? NO WAY is that anything that should not covered by warranty. I would think it comes from a machining error.

The dovetail was machined too deep. I fabricated a stainless shim from a C clamp and seated it with some red loctite. Rock solid now

Very sad.

No new ones for me either.
I will stick to the old ones that I have used for many years.

Wow - really?!

That's VERY bad news.

I've got a number of fine S&W revolvers. I've always considered them the
Gold standard.

I have a Model 10-5 that someone ruined the bluing on that I was considering
sending in for a complete refinish. $245ish+ shipping to make it look like new.
I guess I'll have to reconsider....

Yea, even Cadillacs and Ferraris have their quality control issues.

It's great that we live in a free society......For people who are fed up with minute extremely small Smith & Wesson, Colt, and Ruger quality control issues, we have the choice and freedom to send our money overseas to great junk producers like Taurus, Uberti, Chiappa, or Bersa..... :D ---6

Only S&W’s that’ll find their way into my accumulation need pinned barrels and recessed cylinders :!:

To someone like myself who has collected S&W revolvers and semiautos for many decades, this is very sad. I don't own a S&W newer than 1982, but I remember how great their service was deacdes ago, even on guns I bought used and were well beyond warranty.
Back when I was shooting bullseye matches I used my 745 IPSC for the .45 part of the 2400 match, and had trouble with cycling reliably with lighter loads. No fault of the gun, but I called S&W to ask what could be done? The service tech asked for my name and mailing address and said he'd send me a set of 4 springs to try in my gun. I asked what the cost would be and he said "no charge", and keep them all once I figure out which worked best.
Sounds like that attitude is long gone today!
