I wish winchester would do another run of the 1895 carbines in 303 Brit,I have one in 30/06
and would love to have one in 303 as the originals in 303 were extremely popular here in Canada

I'd buy one of those is a second. The .303 has always been a favorite of mine.

Totally retro and waaaaay cool!
If you doubt the effectiveness of the .303, read Edouard Foa's account of his hunt in central Africa in the 1890s -- 7,200 miles in four years -- and the .303 double rifle that served him so brilliantly.

I do have a Ruger no 1 in 303 and it is one of my favourite deer rifles.I put one of the ruger style express rear sights on it and it makes for a quick pointing hunting rifle

Very cool! I wish those folks that were going to make the Martini copies would do something along these lines. Stalking rifles really trip my trigger.

I keep coming back to look at that rifle. I don't need it, but that doesn't mean anything. My .30-40 1885 is one of the most accurate rifles I've had, but I grew up shooting .303 Enfields. I've been looking around my gun room looking for something to sell. :D

That's a sharp looking rifle as well. Townsend Whelen did a ton of wilderness hunting with a 30-40 Krag high wall.

Jason, that's a gorgeous rifle in a very capable caliber.
But like you, I have owned, loaded for and shot a lot of Enfields.

Thank you!
I prefer the 1885 action over my Sharps. No real reason why. Always been a big fan of the 30-40, my former father in law had a sporter Krag that hid dad had made up. It was a tack driver. He gave me the bayonet that his dad had gotten with the rifle to go with my '98 Krag.

WInchester really needs to get on the ball and have Miroku make a run of the 1895s in 303 British. Their catalog now lists 30-06, 30-40 Krag and 405WCF. It only makes sense to add the 303 especially with ammo being readily available. While they're at it a batch of 1885s would also be very cool. Thinking back about 15 yrs ago or so, they made the 1895 in 270 Winchester..... I just rolled my eyes and wondered what genius came up with that idea.

Don't get me started on the reasons to prefer a Win 1885 over a Sharps. Just accept that John Browning was a genius who improved the work of an older genius and leave it lay at that.

And the .30-40 is the American .303. Why "buy foreign"? (Unless you are a former or present subject of Her Majesty, of course).

I do accept that the Lee Enfield is a better military rifle than either the Win '95 or the US Krag. But WE invented the Lee....just didn't recognize a good thing when we saw it.

I have an 1895 in 30-40 Krag and it's fantastic. Very, very similar to the 303. I would prefer something more powerful in an 1885.
