If you could handle the recoil, it should be a good life saving gun when charged by something such as a rhino, elephant, or Kodiak brown bear.

The forward instead of reverse (like a pump shotgun) might take getting used to, but what a THUMPER....

Really neat. But this old Remington shooter would have a hard time pushing when the "learned response" is to pull.

It goes without saying that I like Krieghoff products a lot . However a pump in a HEAVY dangerous game gun , not sure I’d trust it . Maybe it’s the next great thing but if I were headed to the dark continent for buff buff or any of the other beasties that bite back I’d prefer a controlled feed bolt gun or a double rifle . And Krieghoff makes some very nice double rifles

Exactly what he said!

Any idea on a street price? Its a neat rifle and I have always thought a pump rifle is nearly as fast as a semiautomatic but a bit more reliable.

I found around $4600 for the ones that goes up to the 300 win mag! Could not find the price for the big five in 458 win mag.

35 years ago I had Ruger #1 in .458 and the recoil was pretty bad when you fired 500 grain bullets through it. I usually fired 300 grains and it was much more pleasant to shoot.
You might not feel the recoil if you being attacked by a water buffalo but it would be hard to pump fast.

Elmo, I went down that road, and even tried a No. 1 in .458 Lott. Why, I do not know to this day. Recoil with the Lott was so bad I had to catch the rifle. Yes, I am an out of control, certifiable :o   rifle crank!

I had a #1H in 458 also . Thing shot great with 510 grain handloads but as you say it was a bit heavy recoil wise . I likes my #1H 416 Rem Mag a lot more .

I made the mistake of resting the recoil pad against my thigh and shooting a 510 grain, ouch. My biggest problem was I couldn't find a front sight blade that was regulated for the 300 grain Hornady bullets. I ended up putting a scope on it but it was too heavy to carry deer hunting.

FWIW , the 458 , 416 and 375 1H’s all have pretty much the same barrel contour which should make the 458 all be it ever so slightly the lighter of the three . And with that being said I’ve carried my 375 and 416 hunting a few times both always scoped . And a picture of the day I had success with the 375 H&H .

If you're into reloading, download to 45/70. Now that ought to be a fun gun! Me? I'll go with .308 standard black. Likely kinda pricey.

I have a Marlin Guide Gun. When out hunting, the recoil is not really noticeable. At the bench most loads are in the trapdoor level because they are easier to deal with. The .458 Win Mag is probably much the same other than more of the same.

Many years ago We had a model 70 .458 African in the Family. shooting the 510's I was only good for three shots at a time. I sure can't see it in a pump gun of any kind. that was one fine rifle , shooting 300grn bullets at 1900 was very comfortable and crazy accurate. didn't have the money to buy it when it was sold. .

At 7.5 lbs. I think I'll pass on one in .458 Win.! I've owned heavier guns in this caliber and sold them because I found the recoil abusive. But at the price tag it wont be hard to pass this one up, regardless of caliber. I can spend that on a nice old 1800's engraved rifle and be much happier.
