WOW wonder what ballistic coefficient of that reformed bullet is? 350 Legend makes more sense to me now..... todd/3leg
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!

I sent the photo to a friend who is a ballistician. He replied:

Dear Jim,
Fun to see.
I was there when xxxxx son did the same thing in a Dakota bolt-action M-70 reproduction in the xxxx lab.
the load he tested was a 150-grain Sierra MK.
Similar results.
That rifle contained the case head failure perfectly and he didn't even know the case head had gone away until he opened the bolt.
He didn't hear a thing.
He didn't feel a thing.
Bullet was stopped about ten-inches down the bore.
Interestingly, the bullet pushed right out of the bore.
I am sure this happens quite regularly.

Take care,
Jay Bird

Leave it to Jim to show me something I've never seen before. I like that Jim!........wonder how they got it out of the barrel without banging it all up.....jacketed bullets can be a bugger to get out.

Gonna be cold and windy tomorrow.....I've got all of the necessary ammo and guns to try that. I'm thinking a cast bullet.......ahhh...what the heck, I've got an AR or two I can sacrifice.........come on over tomorrow and hold my beer. :D ---6

Friend of mine says he has seen 6 or 8 AR uppers that were split or cracked from doing such things.
My ballistician friend says when he saw it happen, the bullet pushed easily out of the bore.

It went far enough it was completely resized.

Just more proof that you cannot be too careful. Accidents of that sort are preventable.

I saw a levergunner stick a 444 round in a 45/70. Made a funny noise, and ejected a funny looking "resized" case. No harm no foul, just "ooops". Memory isn't helping me remember the actual person involved... Oh well,

Accidents are preventable. Not to say that I never had a wrong cartridge accident, but it was preventable.

I have both 5.56 and 300BO rifles. It pays to be careful.

Another is 30-30 and 32WS. May not explode, but it sure is going to spike the pressure.
I once saw a pre-64 94 carbine that was stamped 30-30 but was actually chambered in 32. It looked like new. Bet it didn't shoot very well. :D
Good thing it wasn't the other way around.
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

Saw a friend load some 44 Mag in his 45 Colt levergun. That produced some interesting verbiage!

If the extractor catches a 9mm correctly in a 40 cal Glock, it will be held enough to head space /fire also causing very weird fire formed cases- though they aren't reloadable ! Yes I have seen and done it in my G23.

Would be interesting to do that 300 BO in a 556 under lab conditions to see what kind of pressures were achieved!?

I have fired .44 Magnums through my .45 Colt Ruger Blackhawk just to demonstrate what they will do. I could keep them on a paper plate at 30 yards or so. Velocity is not high .. lots of leakage.

Have to wonder what it took to extract that bullet from the barrel.

The case I quoted above, the bullet pushed easily from the bore.
In the photo the bullet does not appear damaged. I'd guess it came out easily also.

Jim.

My newly acquired Win 10 box wont open the pic as is. All I see is the word "Image". Any ideas on how I might get it to open?

Wrong ammo in a gun isn't an accident....it's preventable. It's simply carelessness, or a case of very little gun knowledge.

Didn't happen to me, but was at the range one day when somebody else did just that! Since it was a Glock was able to bang the square edge of the front of the slide on the wood shooting bench to get the slide open then had to use a cleaning rod to punch out the WAY over expanded 9mm case!
Also, saw a utube video of somebody that shot a 300blk through a 5.56, destroyed the AR!

Back in the late 60's early 70's the NRA had a very good "Handloaders Guide". Covered many topics unthought of today. One titled "What what you put in that chamber" Listed several cartridges that would chamber in wrong gun and still shoot. Like I always said, every firearm I bought must have forgot to go to "smart gun school"as none of the EVER loaded themselves ..

Stuff happens. Years ago my dad and I were out at the family farm for a woodchuck run. He'd dropped my box of .275 Roberts and his box of .250 Savage. He wasn't paying attention when eh put the rounds back in the boxes and didn't tell me what had happened. I ended up with a .25o-3000 and didn't notice until I closed the bolt. Something didn't feel right and I opened the action back up. The slightly fatter .250 was stuck in the chamber and no one had a cleaning rod to knock it back out. Ended up woodchuckin' that day with a 1911. Did manage to bag one though. :D

The best way to keep your 30/221 ammo out of your .223 is to leave one of them home.

Apparently it happens fairly often, I've heard of it twice locally alone. In an AR they tend to disassemble themselves when that happens.

Recently a buddy had one of his ar's blow up, split the upper stem to stern, wrecked the bolt head. He got another upper & bolt head, put same barrel back on and it still shoots as well as it did before. I sent him the picture from above. His reply was I wonder what the BC of that is. Well I found an online BC calculator-
