Winter wonderland

Post by Pitchy »

We got nailed with a bunch of wet heavy snow the last couple days, getting hard for us aging people to get it moved around and drag snow off the roofs.
Don`t this i`ll be running trains on the RR track for a while.

We haven't had that around here like that in years. We get about 4 snowfalls per century. It is beautiful.

Around here in Maine, we call that "Liquid Lubrication" Lenn; and with a little squirt of WD40 to help, it works wonders!

To me, the prettiest pictures come in the winter just the way you made them Pitchy................

With all of the different areas of your property you guys need to go to, you'd probably be better off with a self propelled snow blower and just make paths to your required destinations.....you can get a pretty heavy duty one for under a grand.

I used one for the 50 yards to the burn pit....the barn....the horse shed.....and then paths around the yard for the dogs to run around....walkways etc.........then I use the front end loader of the Kubota for the main driveway...........BUT, we get no where near the snow you guys get......-----6

Or you could do what some people I know do...when a big snow comes, just stay indoors with plenty of food and a case of Wild Turkey 101 and wait for the white stuff to melt on Its own.

Same down here Lenn. I have the timer set to start warming up my tractor (IH766) about 5:00. The storm is supposed to subside about midnight, am guessing about 10 - 12" of wet, heavy snow to plow.
Will certainly work the old diesel tomorrow.

I watch the weather for areas where I know people, your area, in Mandan ND I have a college buddy and when I looked at the weather I thought to myself OH BOY this is going to be a big one!
Snow blower is the way to go! I was looking at getting a 6 footer to put on my Polaris Ranger but the darn things are almost 5 grand- umm no! I'll stick with the plow!
Sure is pretty tho!!

Thanks Gunny, my son bought a truck with a plow and is plowing the drive which helps a bunch.
Problem is my driveway is about 200 yards long through the woods so the snow banks keep building up and after a while there`s no place to push the snow.
I take the tractor with the snow bucket and make run offs so i can push some of it off, what i need is about a 8 foot wide snow blower on a tractor.
But never seem to get it done so we do what we gotta do, heavy snows don`t last to long or often then all is cool.
Same problems in the summer, the drive is down hill and heavy rains wash out parts, need a bunch of class five put down and crown it but that costs big bucks so we do what we can.
I used to have a M Farmall with a grader attachment that i could ditch it and put a crown on but sold it a while back.

Pretty out there! Looks like you guys are getting some snow this winter.
Of course, it make a lot of work.
Snowing hard here now. We haven had a whole lot so far this year. Just a few inches on the ground. Some different than it's been the last several years.

Great pictures!

We've been getting blasted by high winds and it's snowing today. It won't add up to much but the wind is really doing some damage. Number one son and I were out at 5am yesterday fixing the fence, some siding and chasing Christmas decorations. Neighbor's front awning was in my driveway.

Sipping coffee now, just got off the tractor.
Plowed snow from 7:00 to about 9:15 this morning. Our "driveway or road" from our buildings to the town road is about 1200' long. Even with snow fence and shelterbelts, we can get some awful drifts, but not much for drifts with this storm. We got 12+"......more than what was forecast.
I'm on break for awhile, then will fire up the snowblower and finish around the house.

We have had wet snow like that here a zillion times Pitchy , I don't like it one bit. if it freezes after it the weight along with some ice will break the limbs up in the oak trees and they will hang there for years. like Six said a decent snow blower will make life a lot easier . stay warm and safe.

It is only occasionally that we get snow like that, I used to love it but not so much now. Thanks for posting the photos of your winter wonderland Lenn, if we get anything like that I'll try to post photos before it disappears. . . . :D
