Re: 5.7 pound 10 gauge !.......
the volume of a one calibre cross section of a .790" bore is 6.3481484641503 c.c. At the tried and true guesstimation of 15 gr. of black powder per c.c. would give you 95 gr. with a little over an ounce of shot in the same volume......
1 1/2 x that one calibre volume for a field load would be 143 gr. or 5.2 drams of black and 1 7/8 oz. of shot......
in a 5.7 pound gun might that get your attention especially if pointed up enough to rest the butt on the clavicle instead of the cushion of the deltoid.....

I’ve got an original double percussion 10 gauge . I was trying to get slug loads hitting POA at 25 yards . Was loading granulated 2Fg 777 anyway I kept going up trying to get it to flatten out and stopped at I think it was 110 grains ! 110 grains with a 730 grain slug is a little tough on the shoulder to say the least . And that was from a 9-10 pound gun .Ray wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2019 9:19 am the volume of a one calibre cross section of a .790" bore is 6.3481484641503 c.c.
