Newbie from VA

Post by Dinny »

Hi there!
I've had a few leverguns and I have my eyes on a Win M71 or a Browning clone. I have a rebored single shot rifle in 348 Win and really like the caliber.

I'm currently in my 25th year of service in the US Army where I'm a combat medic. I have about 18 months left until I retire. Don't really know what I want to do when I grow up but if I can shoot a levergun every once in a while, everything else will work out just fine.

Thanks, Dinny

Welcome from a guy who was born in Newport News Va.
I truly want to thank you not only for the things you have done for my country, but just as importantly for the things you were willing to do. You are appreciated.
Anybody on this board will be willing to help as they are a great bunch of guys.
Gotta get some info from you though!
Do you hunt? What?
Do you handload?
Do you have a preference Rossi, Marlin, Winchester or ALL?
Enjoy your stay.

After having a HUGE herd of leveractions I think I can make it for a good long while with my trio of Marlin 444’s and one old old Winchester 1894TD in 30 WCF . Although another Marlin 1893 in 32-40 with a half octagon 26” barrel would be nice 8)

Welcome to the fire! Thank you for your service.
I have a Winchester 71. Shot a moose with it in 2009. I haven't fired it since. I like the rifle and cartridge, however, most of the time it's just too much gun to lug around for my needs.

If there's any way you can swing it, get the vintage Winchester. I bought one of the Brownings, and the trigger was unbelievably bad. Pull was long, gritty, and extremely heavy; the heaviest I ever experienced in a rifle. I got rid of it. Decent looking, but nothing you'd ever want to shoot.

Howdy from Texas. Combat Medic, well that is really cool to me. I was an 11B1P, 11HE9, and 11H for a while. We took care of the medics back then because they took care of us all while keeping up with us.

Thanks for your service. Have you thought about becoming a Paramedic or a Trauma Nurse once you ETS?

We also like firearms other than just lever actions around here, and we are probably the greatest bunch of enablers the firearm industry ever had.
