The first time I shot a browning long recoil shotgun, I didn't know the barrel moved. I handed it back to the owner and told him something didn't feel right after I shot it. He laughed and explanined to me that was the way it worked.

According to a book I have here at the house THE CIGAR CITY MAFIA, a sawed off Browning was the favorite weapon here back in the day.

I’ve got two Belgium made A-5 12 Mags and four barrels . I still wanna add an A-5 20 Mag . Had a really nice A-5 Lite 20 but someone wanted it more than I . Also had an A-5 Standard 16 that was very early manufacture but it also went down the road .

The Browning Auto 5 patented in 1898 was the shotgun design that spawned John Browning to design the Remington Autoloading Rifle in 1900, which became the Rem. Model 8 in 1905. Both designs were huge steps forward at the time, and Browning was inspired by his work on both of these guns to further develop a lot of other autoloading designs soon after.
I can't imagine what the average hunter thought when these two revolutionary designs hit the market at a time when pump action and other designs were the norm? I still chuckle when I think about Browning offering the autoloading shotgun design to Winchester and they turned him down because he wanted royalties instead of the usual selling his patent outright to them. Their refusal to pay Browning royalties was the end of a 20 year relationship where Browning sold them very successful rifle designs!
