With the Miroku Winchester M73 at the range

Post by MGR1 »

It was a beautiful day yesterday, so I had to take out the M73 for a short range session:

I LOVE your range
The 73 is my favourite Levergun, great to see your 73 making smoke, what were your loads?.
If more men loved and cherished their wives as much as I love bacon the world would be a much better place.

First a few reduced loads with 17 grain Lovex D060 (similar to AA5744) under Lee 429-200-RF bullets. The rest was with Pyrodex P and Lyman 427098 bullets. Velocites were around 1050 fps for both.

I always clean the rifle at the range when using black powder or Pyrodex, using swabs soaked in soapwater and then with Ballistol. Don't like Pyrodex really, but it does not foul so quickly and cleans up easier than real black.

Nice gun and place to shoot...!

There are some SR-4759 and 5744 loads that mimic black powder pressures (or are supposedly even more gentle) and those powders don't require special cleaning.
