Dove opener !

Post by 6pt-sika »

Have my ATV loaded up ready to cross the road , down they my neighbors pasture and over beside his cut cornfield . Have a pair of 16 gauge Parker VH’s on the ATV , a camo bag chair , a few boxes of shells and my camo soft cooler that will get ice packs , water and Pepsi 0 tommorrow . Hopefully I’ll get enough decent shots for a limit . If I do well Monday I may hit it again Tuesday and Wednesday. Be kinda nice to have enough dove breasts for three meals . I usually eat 10-15 breasts in a meal with fried taters , Cole slaw and some form of bread .

I only found out the other day that Doves have been taken off the quarry list in the UK  , I haven't shot doves for some years, not many around where I live, I prefer shooting Wood Pigeons slightly bigger target
If more men loved and cherished their wives as much as I love bacon the world would be a much better place.

Here doves are a song bird so we can't shoot them! But if I drive across the Deleware River I can hunt them... When I lived in Colorado we hunted them everyday during the season. Lots of fun for sure!

I hunted then hard twenty years ago then I laid off for awhile . Now in the last five years I’ve been back at it a bit . But I must confess now my favorite part is the meal that they eventually become

When I first bought my house folks leased the pasture and crop land behind my house to dove hunt. They caused enough ruckus that I could usually limit out sitting in my back yard. Jambalaya was the usual result. Then the property got turned into a golf course.

Golf courses have consumed a couple good gun clubs I visited in the past . And a golf three decker driving range in Japan consumed the place Parker Reproductions were manufactured !

Looks like you had a good day! 9s for doves sounds like a great load, I always used 8s. The extra pellet count with 9s really helps to fill holes in patterns.

Giving it another go today 9/3/19 in the same field I was in yesterday but moved slightly . Also brought a new to me Parker VHE 12 gauge on a #1 1/2 frame with factory 26” barrels choked in cylinder and IC as it left the factory . I’m using WIN 1 1/8 ounce #7 1/2 . I’ll add pics at the house for some reason my phone doesn’t want to download them now :?

Ended with 6 and it took 18 shots also couldn’t find two and I knocked feathers out of two more that kept on sailing . Think I’ll give her a try again tomorrow with my 16 gauge 0 frame .

Just got back in the dove field a few minutes ago . I looked on the Wally World website to see if they had any Mojo Voodoo decoys at the store closet to me which they didn’t . But they did have this : https://www.walmart.com/ip/Wing-it-Dove ... /126107359 So I drove the 17 miles and bought two !

The new pair are the two tallest pair n the middle . Supposed to be a bit wind sensitive .

Between Monday and Tuesday I drank I think ten bottles of water while in the dove field and the wife gave me heck about potassium and sodium loss so I went to the grocery this morning and stocked up on Gatorade !

I buy Gatorade powder in 72oz containers . I mix it by the half gallon and take my yeti jug with me everywhere.
Personally bottled water does absolutely nothing for me, could drink a case and not feel hydrated but one glass of my well water and I feel it instantly. Moral is to buy mineral water- not the stuff that's devoid of minerals.
Oh and the Gatorade is CHEAP! Less than 20 bucks on Amazon .
