Thanks for the tip Steve, I use walnut oil but I didn't know that you can get it in different shades..

Steve, great tip. Man, that Watco livened things up nicely -- and no other prep than degreasing.

That is virtually the same thing I did to my Rossi. They don't seem to come with any real finish. I didn't strip mine I just put a couple of coats of Tru-oil on mine and suddenly the stock figure burst into life. In sunlight it looks like a glaze over a flame inside the wood.
So that is my advice to people as well - just put some oil over the wood and see what she looks like.

Hey Steve,

I've used Tru Oil for years, usually over a coat of Birchwood Casey Walnut Stain. It's a bit labor-intensive but I really like the results-

Tru Oil also takes a few days to really harden up. I will give that WATCO Danish a try.

This is my one. When I got it it looked drab. Because there is no finish on them at all from the facotry. I put one coat of tru oil on and it looked like this :

The Watco "Red Mahogany" duplicates the reddish tone of many pre-64 Winchesters very well. I have never used it on a collector-grade gun, but have refinished quite a number of hunting guns with it--like Win 37s, 24s, 67s, 69s, and a 43 .22 Hornet with worn off stock finish. They look very "Winchester"!

Looking good Steve. Mine came from Navy Arms and has Walnut with oil finish from the factory. Those Rossi’s do look nice with the oil added though.
