338 Federal Suppressed

Post by 6pt-sika »

Well I just got on the hook for a 338 suppressor .

Now I need to get back on tearing apart the 308 upper on my #2 AR-10 and turning it into a 338 Federal .

I've said before a 260 REM and a 338 Federal could most likely cover any possible needs for me and it seems I'm slowly going that route although I'll have both cartridges in bolt guns and AR's .

After the upper is finished and the suppressor is in my possession I think I'm going to put thermal optics on the gun . This thing is being built for Damage Control Night activities LOL's !

I'm a big fan of 338, have both a Win Mag and a federal. My Ruger Hawkeye Fed really likes the Fusion 200 gr factory load. I used them on a big cow elk and found the bullet just under the hide on the off side, should be more than adequate for deer!

All the parts and pieces are on the way to change over my #2 AR-10 to 338 Federal . I think tommorrow I’ll order a Geiselle trigger for it like in my other 10 and my 15 . The hatdparts gonna be coughing up the shekels for the thermal imaging optics ! Somewhat along the same lines we were damage control hunting tonight and I plunked one with my friends AR-10 308 with thermal imaging optics at a measured 289 yards !!!! That is the furthest I’ve ever killed a deer ANYTIME !!!

I did the 338 Win Mag in a Ruger #1B and I had a 338 Federal in an Encore Pro Hunter before . Now I have 338 Federal in a modestly priced Savage combo I bought during the Jerry’s going out of buisness sale and this soon to be finished AR-10 . I kinda wanted to build a bolt gun a year or two ago in 33 Nosler but I got over that LOL’s !

When I built the 260 upper I got a test fired Deadshot barrel from Deadshot off Gunbroker and that barrel shoots great . So I saw no reason not to get the 338 Federal barrel from Deadshot as well . I hope this 338 barrel does as well accuracy wise .

When I got my AR10 it had an older thermal on it but the guy kept it.
I have seen companies that rent the optics, they might rent to own?

Well I just added a NIB Savage Hog Hunter in 338 Federal . This thing is factory threaded so it just might serve a purpose

The Deadshot 338 Federal barrel arrived yesterday . So today whilst fixing my other junk we tore down my #2 DPMS AR-10 and put the barrel and forend on then realized I’d forgotten to order a .875 gas block so that’s where I’m at !

What kind of Thermal Optics are you going to use...?

I've thought seriously about picking a few guns I don't shoot much to sell and raise money for a really GOOD thermal sight.

I’m afraid it’ll be awhile before the 338 suppressor is in my possession . Seems to me the paperwork went in in late August so I might have it in the spring . My 30 cal can oughtta be finishing the process soon “I hope!”.

Incidently I took the AR out this AM and shot it at 25 , 50 and 100 yards . Accuracy wasn't milestone by any means but it was what I'd consider good for a rifle shooting factory

I did however realize I had the gun to dry as it didn't want to feed well and it was in the high 30's low 40's :?

Amazingly the gun was in excellent shape windage wise when I started at 25 yards just 10 inches or so high . Got it decent at 25 then 50 and shot some at 100 from my rickety MTM Case Guard rest I bought specifically for use with AR's and handguns 8)

When I stopped I'd expended 22 rounds . Here at the shop I pulled it down cleaned the barrel pretty well and oiled/lubed it up good and then tried cycling some live rounds thru the mag/action/chamber and they cycled very well 8)
