Big Bore .375 255fn range limit?
I like to set my peeps sights at 100 with the bullet hitting +2" high. I have no personal info as to how hard or soft this Barnes 255FN is that I'm using, Buffalo Bore Heavy 38-55. Not too worried about it being a hard bullet as .375 cal still cuts a big hole, like Cast almost. I'm thinking right now of a limit for elk around 150yds and Mule Deer "maybe" 175-200, in general. Most the type terrain I actually hunt in has mostly under 150yds opportunities. You .375 Winchester ( or comparable energy?) shoot further/closer and what bullets do you use? Thanks Rev Jim

Re: Big Bore .375 255fn range limit?
Have a bit of info, not sure how fast its going but im close, maybe 1900 fps? 2 + in high at 100 yd would give you about
7 in, low at 200 yd. with around 1100 foot pounds of energy, plenty good for elk or deer, ive shot some of the barnes but never had a shot at elk but have shot deer with the barnes & they go right thru, very sure they would pass thru an elk in the rib cage & make a very dead elk if shot in the shoulders, I shoot a savage 99 & a Win 94 in the 375 win. mostly shoot cast bullets in both of them
from 235 - 250 & 280 grain, oh also shoot a 38-55 with same bullets
muzzle energy is around 2000 foot pounds

Hello Brad! Thanks for the info. The box claims they are going 1950fps, from a 20" barrel. While I did not shoot for groups, they were so accurate that I just walked them in to zero with this Williams Receiver sight. I will test their drop at 200yds my next trip to the range. I just had my left hip replaced last week so it will be awhile yet.
I bought this 1978 run off GB back in 2000. It was in the box and it surprised me at how light it was. Since I just had a grand daughter (she was 1) I set it up "for her" mind you. I had it Magnaported and a thick pad put on, trigger job and the Williams Receiver. It was really a pussycat with the factory 200gr loads, but very accurate. I shot it some, took it on a few woods walks but never got serious with it. I just set it aside. I just recently gave myself permission to take it hunting, especially in bad weather. I kept a Mod 94 Classic carbine (30-30) from rusting as a teen in SE Texas ( rain forest!) so I thought I would try the Buffalo Bore Ammo out. It shoots so well, I don't think I'll handload for it again, at least not right now. I have another one just like it in .444 but I have played with many 444s.
I like to take a spare rifle on any hunt, and this little jewel is small/light enough not to worry about. I just now settled down to finally give the .270 a good workout. If you don't mind sharing, how did you/when did you start to use the Big Bore 94? Thanks again Pard for the info! Rev Jim Knight
