Alabama Concealed Carry Permits no longer exempt from NICS

Post by JimT »

When purchasing a firearm, all Alabama residents will have to go through the NICS check. Their CCW permits are no longer recognized as being exempt from NICS.

Sounds like Alabama wasn't following its own laws and thus their CCP is now disqualified. Seems straightforward enough.

The only civil servant who has more of a arrogant-entitled-meglomaniac attitude than the stereotypical postal or d.m.v. clerk is the person behind the glass at the sheriff's office. The NICS check for warrants and convictions they are required to make through their foxfire network for each permittee at renewal takes only seconds and needs no more effort than a click or two of the mouse and a few keyboard strokes but they are too impatient and lazy for even that little energy expended.

Likewise the online NICS check at your gunshop through the atf portal to the fbi is quite as fast as the sheriff's system and takes less than a minute and most shops have continued doing it all along anyway even when shown a valid, unexpired weapons permit.

It is also said that having the option to renew permit for five years is a hindrance to staying in atf compliance for this program.

The intent of the way this nation was set up was essentially that the citizens give the police conditional, limited, rights to possess firearms, subject to potentially arbitrary limits including how and when they may use them, NOT the other way around. It may irritate some egos, but the police really don't have any fundamental say-so over what citizens carry, nor the specifics of how they use them, as long as it is in accordance with self-defense and safety related laws.

Obviously this system has been eroded quite a bit....!

Doc... You seem confused about the way the police state works...

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.
