Way too hot outside, playin' with a couple 44s

Post by 2ndovc »

Just felt like getting my favorite .44s out. It's near 100 outside this afternoon, not something we get around here very often and not about to do anything out there today.

Thanks Jay! Still can't believe I got it back. I have to get it out every few days, just to make sure. :)

Haha I can believe that!
Funny thing is, I have an old 3 screw SB that would be a perfect candidate for that sweet setup. Well, it's my dad's. Hasn't been fired in 20 years.

I worked. 95 degree heat is not much to worry over when you are inside in the A/C all day. :D

Here's a better picture of the case hardening Jack. They were both done by Turnbull. I sold the New Model not long after I got the Bowen back. I'd bought it as a "sort of" replacement but it just wasn't the same.

I knew the people involved in this thread and should have known it would be good wholesome family content but hot outside and playing with 44’s .....my mind wandered to the dark side.

OK.....well done Jason.......no brag....fact.....I've seen many old original guns that never saw the light of day....I even have a couple......nobody does color case hardening like Turnbull.....I've only seen one original gun.....I used to own it....a 1936 Marlin that still had the lacquer on its color, that compared to Turnbulls work......it's as if his are "too bright" if that makes sense, and it don't.

Nice guns like that are like handling a high maintenance woman, your afraid to handle them for fear of breaking.---6

Thanks Jack,

The Bowen .44 gets a lot of use and I take it everywhere I can. Just last summer it saved one of my little dogs from a four legged predator up at our cabin in PA. Happened so fast all I remember is my thumb pulling the hammer back and "boom"! I bought the stainless NM for those days that it's raining / snowing but still usually pack the other one anyway. That shorter grip on the New Model isn't as pleasant for me to shoot as the older one.
