Chrongraphed a couple loads from my Trapper yesterday

Winchester Model 94 Trapper .30-30
16" barrel

125 gr. Speer .311" (AK bullet)
32.5 gr. H322
2384 fps average

Speer 130 gr. FP Hot-Cor
32.5 gr. H322
2414 fps average

Shooting at 130 yards I could not tell any advantage with the spitzer 125 gr. bullet.

Very cool and thanks!

Back when I hand loaded .357 for my Winnie Model 1892 with 20 inch Douglas barrel, I got 2200 fps with 140 grain hollow point bullets: my wife shot a doe with that load and on the off side it took out a combo of hide and meat 6 inches in diameter. Stopped using HP then. Even factory 125 grain JFP ran 2200+ and shot flat and accurately.

Fun gun, eh?

I've seen you mention the 130gr Speer before and am quite intrigued. It is definitely on my short list to try in my Trapper.
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

Thanks Jim

I also use the 130 speer in a AE trapper, shoots great but I did put a scope on it, figured it was made for a scope
and works great with my ageing eyes

I have heard good things about that 130 Speer as well. Another plus is that most of the Speer .30-30 bullets have superior ballistic coefficients to most of the other blunt nose levergun designs.
