Well that was fun

Pretty good shaker in SoCal. Looks like out near Death Valley. Not a highly populated area, thank heaven.

I wonder if it knocked the piles of human waste in San Fran back down and all over the streets.

Chandelier was swinging, TV was rocking, coffee sloshing a bit in the pot. Looks like it was about 90 miles NE of here.

Just had another good shaker. Felt a bit stronger than yesterdays. I may not need to go to an amusement park for E ticket attractions if this keeps up.

Spring of 1986.....

Approximately 0900.....

Naval Station Treasure Island.....

Shipfitter and Damage Controlman "A" School B.E.Q. Dormitory......

Was reading a Louis Lamour paperback, one of the sacketts I think....

The goomers next door started a row and were banging on the intervening wall.....or were they?......No it was a terromoto.....Just a baby one by California standards but an earthquake just the same.....

When the kin and kith back east heard i had survived an earthquake, it raised me a notch or two in their esteem yet they sent no care packages or money orders......

They said : "After all, the barracks roof didn't buckle or burst into flames and besides you only got six weeks to go until you go to portsmouth. Why are you whining ? Uncle Ronnie gives you three squares a day. If that ain't enough the bowling alley has chili dogs and onion rings and 3% beer by the pitcher..... "

Yea, it was a pretty good one. But this demonstrates a point I've made for years. Disasters are fairly localized. We're roughly a couple of hundred miles from the epicenter. And there was no disruption in our lives at all. If you survive the initial event it's pretty easy to drive out of the effected area.

Heck, if folks had paid attention and left New Orleans before Katrina hit, other than property damage, it would have been a non event. But you always, not matter what type of disaster, have those that refuse to leave either before when they are warned or just after.

Earthquakes give no warning. The much touted earthquake warning system did not work during the 6.4 or the later 7.1 (the threshold was set too high, you government at work). Still a few simple supplies and a decently capable vehicle and after a few hours you are in a nice safe and secure area. You might have to run a few bills up for gas, food and lodging on the old credit card, but all things considered not big deal.

Actually the worst effect the last two quakes had was to shut down the rides at Disneyland for inspection. Earthshattering I assure you.
