My son cut me a piece of Bois D-Arc to use as an anvil stand from our pasture... the tree was in need of cutting down...

I've only ever used a metal stand with a bit of firehose for traction... I'm hoping that will be nice and firm, and with some chain to hold it in place, steady, with a better feel... Wish I'd have had it when I was making the brackets for my golf cart roof. Kinda odd, havin' wrought iron brackets on the golf cart... but I like it!

I t does... but I"ll probably make some of my shooting sticks out of a lot of them... I cut down a few black locust and mesquite trees also. The mesquite stick are gonna be slightly on the expensive side.

Looks good, i had a oak under my anvil for the last 30 years but it broke in four pieces a few weeks ago while using it.
Have a birch under it temp until i find another oak, i put four RR spikes around them and they never move.

I thought of doing that, but thought they might be a bit short. Got a pic of how you have the spikes placed?

That log looks right at home under your anvil. Once it has dried and turned darker, it will look even better. Like well made leverguns, some things just get better with time.

A picture of that anvil and log with an old Winchester resting on it would be a nice avatar picture.

No picture and it fell all apart now and i haven`t spiked the new one yet but they were in a couple inches from the points on the base on the half circle if that makes sense.
I probably drilled some pilot holes before spiking .

Very nice, Griff. I wish I lived in osage country, although there are a few of them scattered hereabouts along watercourses. Such lovely wood.
Your anvil -- 170 pounds or more? Who made it? I've not seen one with such a long heel. Mine is just a little 120-pound refaced Trenton.
