In the elk woods yesterday

Post by Bill in Oregon »

Managed a six-mile hike yesterday up in our Sacramento Mountains at about 9,000 feet -- my first serious hike since lumbar surgery eight weeks ago. Boy, it felt good to be up in the woods again. We moved about a dozen elk, including this lovely bull in velvet. Sorry the photo is not sharper -- my cell phone's zoom leaves much to be desired. I am always struck by the rich brown and russet tones of our Rocky Mountain elk.

Pete, I have a cow tag for early December. We'll see. I'll be carrying the 1951 336-A in .35 Remington with cast boolits.

Very nice, thanks for sharing!

Glad to hear you got out, and I hope you continue to heal well and get stronger -- strong enough to drag one of those bulls out!

Glad you are up and about. It would be nice to have some woods like that near me.
