Log splitting machines

Post by mikld »

Some really innovative ideas on this interesting video, labeled "Extremely dangerous...", but I didn't see much danger, if the operator pays attention...

Actually, I don't know about the rest of you fellers, but the one that looked the most fun was the red-colored one that was > the last one in the video.....that's the one I'd pick, hands-down....!

Dang doc.....those babies were just about popping out......both of them!

On the subject of the splitters..they are dangerous.....any time you don't have the control of the part that does the splitting, your asking for it. With a conventional splitter, like most of us wood guys have, YOU control the part that does the damage. Besides, a lot of those gadgets would never cut eastern hardwoods......they may be fine for short pieces of pine...but try those machines on a knotty piece of white oak or hickory......

I knew someone that lost 2 fingers to a splitter because a different person was at the controls! Never handle the log from the ends- always around the diameter!!

Looking at that video, it appears most of those machines are in Europe. ( look at the architecture & trucks).

I have to agree; the most "dangerous" one would be the red one...
