Making Tungsten Carbide Bullets

Post by AJMD429 »

Interesting video on the manufacturing process - https://youtu.be/EsNw4iCOJy4

I'm not sure about the part where they said that 'tungsten carbide is too heavy to make a bullet out of' because it is only about 50% more dense than lead - 15.63 versus 11.34 gm/cc I believe. I think what they 'meant' was probably that to produce a projectile with a similar-enough weight to interchange with other bullets in the same firearm without having to adjust the sights, you have to 'exchange' some lighter-than-lead metal such as steel at 7.8 or so gm/cc for lead to counteract the higher density of the tungsten, so you get a projectile of the same weight and shape yet with a very hard core.

Anyway, pretty cool video.
