No, no, no ... a 1000 times NO! That is the last thing you need on a defense weapon. Nothing but a total distraction.
When under stress you'll react as you practice, that gimmick would cost you your life.

Exactly Joe.
But these days gimmicks sell.
Doesn't matter whether they work or not. As long as they promise results that should actually come through training.

Personally, I figger in a stressful situation, the Smart Slide would be ignored. I don't know when it started for me, but I count every time I pull the trigger, just habit. I think this may prove useful in competition, mebbe for a "tactical reload". But I don't have any Glocks and my "Stressful situation" guns are often revolvers...

I do think it's impressive that they can make so many different devices small enough rugged enough to survive on a firearm.

But other than something like the MantisX that might be useful for training purposes, or a really well-designed and practical holographic or laser sight with non-electronic bsckup, I really don't want anything electronic on my firearms.

It took me long enough to trust anti-lock brakes, but at least they have a definitive mechanical backup.

Subject to pop-ups? Will we be seeing ads for dating Russian girls and cures for male issues?

Seriously if we embrace any electronics on firearms we are starting down that slippery slope. Politicians and antis will claim we are willing to accept electronics and that this type of thing proves it's possible to build a "smart gun". Think about having to retro fit your Singer 1911, P-38, Luger, ect. with a micro processer to make it "legal" to own.

Newhall?

I just had a thought:
What if you have an intruder in your house?
What if the house is dark at 0:dark30 and you are searching for him?
What if that read out shows the intruder your position .....

I can see no benefit to this gadget, only negatives.

No thanks. Keeping things simple so that they work every time is better. I work with computers, and they all glitch at some point during the day.

jeepnik,

Thanks. I had read about the shooting years ago, but didn't remember the names.

So....Gary Kness steals an officer's handgun, and tries to use it to murder an innocent victim of police brutality, and people think he's a hero...

Shouldn't he be treated as a 'terrorist' or 'gun criminal' or something...?

The way the media is today, I'm surprised that's not what happened. :|

Growing up my family had a place near a dry lake Elizabeth Lake. Many weekends we’d drive through Newhall to get there. I was very aware when the shooting took place. I clearly remember the shift in the behavior of the CHP thereafter.

30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

I can change magazines quickly and easily. It is a habit. In fact, I almost have to think about it when I need to stop and set the pistol down when the range goes cold so that I don't put in a full magazine. Practice and train. When under stress of a firefight, you react as you have practiced because panic defaults to the mode that is most easily accessed. That mode is what you have practiced most. Additionally, mindset is of major importance. Letting gadgets take over like those do is going to get you killed.
