Moose Molds

Post by 6pt-sika »

I received a pair of Minnie ball molds today I ordered from a company that’s new to me . Moose Moulds in Dublin PA . They’re predominantly in the ML Skirmish type thing , but you d read on the net about some others using their Minnie Moulds as shotgun slugs . So a week or so ago I ordered a pair of the “Moose Wadcutter Minnie Molds” one in .685-535 and the other in .715-535 . These molds come with a hollow base pin and I asked for them both to have the HB pin and an additional pin to make flat base as well . The quality in machining looks very good . I cleaned them then spited them today hopefully Monday or Tuesday I’ll be able to give them a test run .

Had one of their molds for an Enfield. Beautiful workmanship. I think you will like them.

I think they are of pretty good quality as well . Of these two do relatively well in the 10 and 12 gauge I may order the correct size in a 58 cal for use in the 20 gauge .

I also have heard good things about Moose moulds. I wanted to order a .616 round ball mould from the Moose folks but got an email from moosette saying they had quit making round balls. Where would a feller get a somewhat non-standard sized round ball mould these days?

There was a guy in the UK that supposedly made pretty decent roundball molds but his name escapes me at the moment .

You might try Track of the Wolf .

Incidently .616 is just a skoosh over what I wanted for the 16 gauge to fit inside the shotcup . If memory serves my Russian knockoff mold of the Lyamn sabot for a 16 gauge measures ,608" .

Was able to cast some today . Used both molds first casting two dozen of each size . And then changing the plugs and doing the same amount of solid base in both sizes .

Only took pictures of the larger (10 gauge) version . Without calipers one cannot tell the difference .
