Shot My New Winchester 73 (Video)

Post by Rube Burrows »

Been a busy couple weeks so I had not got to even shoot my new 73. That is till yesterday. Took it out and ran a couple hundred rounds through it. Functioned flawlessly. Once I adjusted the sights on it I was shooting it pretty well.

My one and only complaint on the rifle is how hard I have to squeeze the lever safety for it to shoot. There were a couple times when it cost me split seconds from having to squeeze harder and I am not speed shooter to begin with.

Here is a quick video of a couple magazines through it and then some close ups of the rifle. Fit and finish were excellent. Don't know how to imbed it so here is the link.

Gosh I need to go shoot a SASS match. Landrun is next week and I'm just not able to go. Gonna put the other knee in this summer. Maybe then....

It probably just needs broken in. A little bit of breaking in has always worked for any new firearm I have owned.

5 Grains of Trailboss with a 200g RNFP. I have tried both 4 and 5 grains of Trailboss for my .45 Cowboy action guns. My 92 likes 5 grains better. I will have to see what this one likes. The gun did its job but if I was leaving today on a hunting trip I would grab my 92 because I know what its capable of 150 yards and less and could stretch it further if needed. This is a much nicer gun but I missed more of what I was shooting at than I hit right out of the box. Might just need load tweaking though for this rifle.
