Old air guns

Post by GunnyMack »

Does anyone know of a parts place or someone that does air gun repairs?
Buddy of mine has asked me to try and fix his Sheridan 5mm and we need a front sight for a Hy Score 808.
Any help, ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry Gunny, all the spares dealers over here seem to only stock BSA, Webley and Diana parts.

GK, I don't have much hope for the Hy Score, although it's German made. Probably find the seals for the Sheridan but it might take some deep searching.

Gunny,
Google T.W.Chambers & Co. They ship world wide from the UK and have Sheridan & Crosman parts and some German spares, they may have knowledge of the Hy Score parts you require it not the actual parts.

I resealed my Sheridan and put new seals in a couple of Daisy BB guns that I have with parts that I purchased from,

Bryan & Associates www.bryanandac.com 864-261-6810
R.D. Sauls
2504 Poplar Lane PO Box 5772
Anderson, SC 29623

For the Sheridan you will need a special square bit to remove the threaded plug that holds in the seal, I made one out of a Craftsman 1/4" socket.

I also bought some seals from Crosman for the Sheridan.

I was really lucky to live a few miles from one of the best airgun repair stations in the USA! Ollie Damon's has been doing airgun repair for as long as I can remember, and I'm pushing 69 yrs. old. I took a very old Benjamin pump into them from the 1920's, and they not only fixed it, but also turned a new bolt handle for it. The cost is always surprisingly reasonable.
But now the sad news. After 73 years in business, Ollie Damon's owners tried unsuccessfully to sell their business and closed their doors in December of 2018! Now there is nobody around here who can do what they did. Beyond airgun repair, they also sold and repaired fishing reels and rods. Just a wonderful place, and sad to see it closed.

I'll second "Timmy Mac" for the Sheridan. He's THE go to guy for those old pumpers.

I had some time to tinker with the Sheridan this afternoon. I put a drop of oil into the OIL hole, worked the pump a few times and then another drop of oil. I'm thinking the seals were dry. Shot it in the basement, has enough oomph to put a nice dent in a dry 2x4, flattening the pellet about in half with 5 pumps.
Now I have to decipher the screw size/ pitch for the Hy Score front sight... 4x48 drops in the hole, 5x56 is too big- gotta be metric. Was made in Germany but I was hoping it was a standard pitch.
