Dogs & CBD Oil

Post by Sixgun »

Having upwards of 30 dogs in our lifetime, we have seen it all.....or at least we thought we did.....

I want to to meet "Alfie", our 15 year old Yorkie.......(excuse his "looks", he is a bit ungroomed at the moment :D ) Back in December Alfie started to stumble and falling down. His issue progressed to where in January to where he could not get out of his doggie bed........by February he could not lift his head........we NEVER put dogs down...as far as we are concerned people who do that are selfish because they don't want to take the time to nurse their dog....forget that, everyone has their issues.........

We would have to transfer Allie from doggie bed to doggie bed when we went to bed. Yea, he messed himself......his head needed to be propped up.....had to fed and watered by hand........he still had an excellent appetite...he wanted to live...and we let him.......

Yea, major PITA ....washing his little bed, a dozen towels a day, staying with him so he would not bark......but that's us...our decision......he gave us lots of years of joy.....we figured we could give back....

Fast forward to the beginning of March........my wife's niece , a nationally known French Bulldog breeder whose dogs cost as much as a deluxe engraved 1886 Winchester was telling my wife to try some CBD oil....maybe five drops....."use as needed".

I waited several weeks before posting this.......around the first of the month we gave Allie a few drops and within 15 minutes, he was lifting his head up...30 minutes later he was taking small steps......within a couple of hours he was walking around the house. Any small obstacle on the floor such as a doggie toy would make him fall. He was learning to walk again, getting better each day.

We still had our fingers crossed trying not to overreact to his positive accomplishments......he was still wobbly .....but getting around.......after 2 and a half days from the first dose, he regressed...........gave him 5 more drops......within a half hour he was back in business......so.....every 2 and 1/2 days to three days we give him a few more drops......

Today, with the weather nice we had him outside. Allie was walking around the yard, over things, drinking standing up, and smiling...yes....dogs smile.

Like the people doctors I have lost faith in the medical/vet professions......except maybe a heart attack or broken bones.....but for everyday living, common sense rules......screw big pharma......I'll stick to "weed" :D ----6

Good on ya Six! He looks as happy as he can be!
When Parker started her lameness after hunting I was talking to the woman that owns the local pet store, she threw me a package CBD treats to try. First time I gave her one Parker mellowed out and was snoring in 5 minutes. Has it helped? I dunno but if I can keep from having her go through ACL surgery I'll try. As soon as it warms up some she is going to start swimming for rehab.

You've got to admire those Yorkies tough as old boots despite their size. Nice job six... :D

Gamekeeper...I know I told you before I always admired the strength and determination of the English...giving Adolf a good whoopin' ......seems you guys breed your dogs the same way....Yorkies are nasty little buggers.

Let me tell you the story about the lady from Philadelphia who had a Yorkie that attacked a German Shepherd...the big dog killed the Yorkie and the woman was so distressed she went to a Atlantic City casino to ease her pain....she won a million dollars on the slots..that's true..it was on the news some years back.---6

Neighbor had a German shepherd, my Jack Russell continually kicked its azz! Heck my Jack was a killing machine! Squirrel, rats, groundhogs, chipmunks, skunks, cats, even treed a bear a time or two. Lots of people do not like JRTs but ya gotta understand them- they are hard wired , eat, KILL,sleep ,KILL,KILL eat ,KILL etc.
One day he disappeared, couldn't find him for hours. Finally after dark I heard a faint bark- he had dug his way under a rock in the yard about the size of a twin bed. He was digging his way from one side to the other length wise!

Yup 1965/66 for the song, February 1965 for me. My Dad was a Dion Warwick fan for many years. He used to play songs like that on a reel to reel tape deck in his home office when I was growing up. I was more a Charlie Daniels, Hank Jr, Skynyrd fan. Still am.

Gunny.....Always wanted a Jack Russell.........I was going to make my next dog one but Miss Apple, our shih Tzu,is only three and I'm 64 so that probably won't happen. Mom has enough Yorkies to keep us busy for some more time.

You said, "my Jack was a killing machine".......well THIS Jack is taking a killing machine out tomorrow..the mighty BAR....Few times a year I clear the cobwebs outta it to kill some steel plates and rocks.......after playing I'm gonna stop at the gunsmith to see if he can put a rail on it for a scope. ---6

My Sister has a teacup Yorkie that is as mild mannered as they come. Her teacup Piddle bosses Harley around like you would not believe.

Our Chihuhhua is the boss in the house. She bullies the Irish Terrier and the Rat Terrier. The Chihuweenie is young enough that she thinks the Chihuahua is playing. The Chihuahua gets so frenzied that she spins like a dervish on too many Red Bull drinks.

We used to have a dog that was part Jack Russell, and she was a friend to every dog and human she ever met. She killed mice and rats and snakes with extreme prejudice. I had watched her kill a cottonmouth near a city pond in a park. The signs were prominent about venomous snakes. She annoyed the snake until it was exhausted, then she grabbed it by the tail and ran with it until she could whip it against a tree to stun it. She then grabbed it behind the head and proceded to chew through its spine. When she was finished, I took a stick and threw the dead snake out onto the moss where the birds and insects could get to it. I had checked and the fangs were still dripping a clear amber colored liquid. I didn't want any kids getting bit.

By the way, Dallas just raided some place that sold CBD oil. Kind of stupid to me.

This is heartwarming, but I honestly would love to know a heck of a lot more about what Alfie's illness or condition was, and how and why CBD helped pharmacologically.
I have been reluctant to mess with the stuff for legal reasons and because we know so little about exactly how it works and what the proper dosing should be.
I realize that CBD derived from hemp is probably on the right side of the legal line.
Six, your little buddy is so darned adorable, I salute you for trying to give him more time.

Hey Six, I have a 12 year old Shepherd that is starting to limp a lot after walks. She's a sweetheart and always wants to go with my 3 year old mini Aussie. But after a long walk she limps for a couple days. I tried some joint pain medication but it doesn't seem to work. Can you PM me the brand of oil you used? There are several on Amazon but I'm not sure which dosage or brand would work. I'd like to give it a try.

Bill....Alfies issues are severe arthritis along with some kind of degenerative nerve problem.....in laymens terms...worn out.....don't know how much longer he has but with his new found freedom, this dog is walking all over the house. He still can't climb steps or go down them.

Came home from the gun club today and mom had him outside again.....he was waltzing around the yard, happy as a lark.

I'm no doctor, vet, or even anybody with any kind of a degree but I do have enough common sense to see this stuff is working.....dogs don't know placebos. :D ....and it's not coincidental either...this pelosi works.....how? Dunno....

We put five drops in his mouth....you can't OD on this stuff...you don't get high .....it's just a funny tasting oil. My wife says for me to take a bottle a day to cure my stupidity and arrogance but I tell her it'll probably take a 55 gallon drum for that.

More and more positive news everyday on this oil......

Works wonders on match heebie-jeebies.....maybe 10 drops and I'm calm as a cucumber......(or is that "cool as a cucumber?") whatever....thanks guys....our dogs mean a lot to us just like they mean a lot to all of the guys here.--6

My daughter used it on a defective dog she has, it worked quite a bit to even him out, she convinced us to try it and it helps with my arthritis, and helps her MS and anxiety.
The Hemp stuff is legal in all 50 states, I've got a guy near here that grows and process' the stuff, you can mail order it from anywhere too.
but.... you need to find a good "dealer", too many places dilute the oil so you don't know what your getting, lot of money to be made and with that some dishonest people to take advantage.
A lot of research is coming out on this stuff.

It may be legal, but having the Dallas Police raid a seller is not going to go easy in court for the wronged citizen. Not trying to cause the thread to drift, just trying to warn everyone that not all places are up to date on the laws concerning such products. As far as using something like an oil from a plant which is harmless, and appears to help, why should it be illegal? If that were a problem, many new entities being tested as medications would be a problem. Heck, hemp rope is strong and useful. It is also hard to find. Hemp fiber in resin was used by Henry Ford as an alternative to fiberglass. He gave up on the project due to law enforcement pressure. No one was getting high.

Years ago it was encouraged to have farmers grow hemp to be turned into quality rope.

I do think the stupid war on drugs has failed spectacularly and has messed with too many non-drug products.

That's great Six. Dogs are great critters aren't they? I love 'em. I'll be 66 this year (I hope) and lost my last dog in November. Cross between a Jack Russel & a Chihuahua, she was a fireball & a very happy girl.

I'm pretty sure dogs are proof that God loves us. Well, that, and bacon.

(gotta dig out those moulds for ya)----6. (Go rescue a dog from a shelter......it's better mental therapy than any people medicine)
