Two Guilt Posts 4 U
Since I have not posted anything new for a while, here are two about top- lever guns, one rifle and one shotgun.
First, the top lever Simson & Co. .405 WCF rifle and it's take-down case:
I looked unsuccessfully for a trade label for the inside of the lid of the take down case and learned that like other German gun makers, Simson sold their guns in boxes or Leg of Mutton cases, so there was no need for Trade Labels as with English doubles or as with American Parker Shotguns. However Simson made many different products other than guns and the company did make a Trades Label which listed all their product categories. A Finnish member of the Doublegunshop.com forum saw my "help" post and sent me the graphic of the Trades Label!!! My wife put a border on it, printed it on label paper with removable backing, covered the image with a transparent laminate, trimmed it to fit and installed it. Looks great:
On the case with .405 DR.
Butt of gun showing left side cheek piece, right side palm swell, initial oval, metal grip cap and bottom of coin finish action.
Rifle in rest with scope mounted in Talley compatible grooves in rear rib. Note Greener cross bolt and loaded chamber indicator on left side of scalloped receiver. Also wood looks different in different light.
Second, top lever Parker 20 gauge on birds at Hidden Lakes yesterday, with a little help from three friends:
This place is only a one hour drive from farm.
Parker 20 circa 1900:

If more men loved and cherished their wives as much as I love bacon the world would be a much better place.

Re: Two Guilt Posts 4 U
I’d be intrested to see the Parker 20 gauge top lever hammer gun you mentioned you used for the cackle birds . I’ll eventually get a Parker 16 gauge top lever hammer gun , but I doubt I ever lay out the scheckels for a 20 gauge Parker top lever hammer gun , a bit pricey to say the least .
Parkers , Mannlicher Schoenauer’s , 6.5mm's and my family in the Philippines !
Re: Two Guilt Posts 4 U
My only 20 gauge Parker is this circa 1928 VHE with 28” barrels M&F . Had good days after cackle birds and dove with the little VHE .
The little gun does fairly well with some old stock Brenneke slugs ! You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Nice gun ! When you wrote “top lever” I took that to mean a “top lever hammer gun “ .
