Latest knives I have made

Post by Chuck 100 yd »

Here are a few knives I made last fall .

These were Christmas gifts for the ladies in the family

Another Bowie

A fanticy piece to decorate the shop wall.

Two of the neighbor boys asked if I would teach them how to make knives. They are both good boys
12 and 13 yr. olds. We glued up their handles yesterday.

I see I have some learning to do on posting photos. They all got there but not in the order I wanted.
Do you have to delete pictures from the list before posting another to prevent duplication ?
I will play with it.

It takes a lot to strike my fancy anymore...but Lordy, those knives are what I call the ultimate in craftsmanship. I'm impressed Chuck.....love the Bowie......really like the hatchet with the "head bopper" on the reverse side.....-----6

Thanks guys , I try to make every one better than the last one . There comes a point where it’s difficult to see improvement.
That level is where one can say he is no longer a beginner.

That is some nice and useful examples of skill. Those who try to continue to improve are the sort whose products can be trusted.

Very nice. How do I get on your Christmas list? True craftsmanship. What’s the steel for the Bowie’s?

I mostly use 440C stainless these days. I send them out for commercial heat treating due to the lack of proper deat treat furnace in my shop. There are many exotic steels available today but 440 has been on top for over 50 years and will take a very nice finish and heat treat to 58-60 RH.

Octagon , yes, there is a lot of hours hand sanding through various grits of sandpaper even before you can start buffing.
I have spent around $250.00 on abrasives alone in the last few months.
Here is a camp knife I made to donate to the gun club auction to offset the cost of our annual banquet. It sold for $250.00 .
One exactly like it I made last year sold for $375.00 .

I agree with you Doc. That's why I spent the last 20 years of my working life teaching others what little I know. It's been rewarding.
