He went through so much in his short life.

Not forgotten here in Farmersville, Texas!
We have Audie Murphy Day, a parade, Audie Murphy Parkway, etc.

Charles, I believe the greatest tribute to him is the Audie Murphy Memorial VA Hospital in San Antonio. He tried hard to get our soldiers the treatment they needed for PTSD.

I recall when he was suffering with medical issues and people were saying he was an alcoholic. Even as a young person I was irritated that a true American hero was slandered so easily by stupid people. What he did, and what he went through was truly an amazing story. The movie he made about it only covered his military time and how he got the CMA. I wish someone would do another movie covering his entire life.

I used to do volunteer work in the Physical Therapy area at the hospital. At the time there was a small section of the lobby set aside to memorialize Mr. Murphy. The display consisted of photographs from his life, a short biography, a description of his deeds in WWII some of his awards and his Medal of Honor. The display is probably still there, but I haven't been into the hospital in many years. Last time was when my Dad had a stroke just before he passed.Bill in Oregon wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 11:47 am Charles, I believe the greatest tribute to him is the Audie Murphy Memorial VA Hospital in San Antonio. It is a fond memory for me, having worked to serve my fellow veterans, and the many times I stopped to ponder the contents of that display and the deeds of a heroic farm-boy from Texas.
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.
