I'll be darned. Wonder how it compares in this platform to .450 Bushmaster, .458 Socom and .50 Beowulf.

Back to the AR-15 and the .458 SOCOM, this sure impressed me.

I'm glad to see the 450 Marlin chambered in more guns, but AR-10's are SO DARNED BIG, they'd better be chambered in something worthwhile...!

Guns&Ammo did an article on "What is the 50 Beowulf Good For...?" that kind of explored the concept of the 'big-bore' AR's, and it is sure interesting to see all the flavors of "AR" out there now, in both the AR-10 and AR-15 formats. Personally, I like the smaller AR-15 format with the 50 Beowulf, but either 50 Beowulf or 458 SOCOM are pretty powerful.

It would be interesting to see if the 450 Marlin could be even more powerful than the AR-15 big-bores though; cartridge-size-wise, it would seem like it could be an even harder thumper.

If I was after a bigger caliber for my AR-10 for say elk and moose think I’d just build an upper for the 338 Federal . Matter of fact I might do that anyway .

Had a 450 BM , used a 50 BW and have shot a Socom a good bit . Also owned a trio of 450 Marlins . I’ve also owned a 338 Federal , but the Federal I wouldn’t mind doing again .

did you ever run direct comparisons among them? I'm interested in the 458 because I can use my 45/70 bullets... but don't know what the "GOTCHA'S" are...

I liked 458 but the 450 shopts flatter and longer. 458 also was a little more finkicky to reload.

If you're going with the AR-10 sized gun, there are bigger badder options than the Marlin.
