Terry Murbach

#1 Post by azhockeyfan » Mon Dec 24, 2018 3:18 pm

Hi everyone.
I don't know if this is the right place for this.
I am a very old family friend of Terry Murbach's wife and we found out Terry passed away on Friday. I know he was very active in the gun community and I ended up here when I searched his name.
Thank you

Terry, travel well. Godspeed. Thanks for all you’ve done to make our world a better place. To all that love him, heal well.

Azhockeyfan, thanks very much for letting us know.

Terry was a great asset to us. He helped us with knowledge and he slapped us around when we deserved it. He helped me personally several times.

Thank you for letting us know....I really liked Terry....old school who said it like it is without sugar coating........

Terry was a great dude.......one day last summer/spring?...could have been last year.... , the phone rings and my wife answers and tells me there is some guy who wants to talk to you..I said, "hello" and the guy answers, "hey Sixgun, .....John Taffin gave me your number.... it's Terry Murbach, just wanted to BS about some old Colts and you will have to excuse me as I've had a "liquid lunch". :D " He was tuned in a bit and we had a nice chat. First and last time I heard from him.

My head was swelled up to the size of a balloon 🎈 for some time after that. Same goes for Taffin...good guys from a bygone era of the golden years of gun writing when gun writers wrote about guns and not promoting them. Anymore, the only magazines I buy are if Taffin wrote the articles.

See ya Terry...in another life.

Funny thing, he even talks on the phone in caps! ----6

TERRY WAS A GREAT RESOURCE OF GUN INFO, AND ALWAYS HAD WORTHWHILE COMMENTS TO TECHNICAL QUESTIONS, ON ANYTHING GUN RELATED. I ALWAYS CHUCKLED AT HIS CAPITALIZED TYPING, AS IT OFTEN GOT NEWBIES ASKING WHY HE WAS SHOUTING.

TERRY!!!!!!! YOUR BACK.....INCOGNITO. !!!!

Hey, let's start a Terry Murbach fan club and we can have our own forum within a forum. Just like the Garand Campfire 🔥 post.

Rules will be simple.....

A). All writing will be in caps

B). We will call a spade ♠️ a spade ♠️

C). If you have thin skin and can't take righteous criticising and don't like to hear the truth......hit the road.

D). There will be no "board police" ...you know, guys who think they are morally superior and show it by saying....
"oooooooo, you can't have a picture of a girl showing off her elbows"......then go behind the heater with a bottle of whiskey and a girly book.

Terry was a very good man, a good American, a dude with a strong knowledge of "what's right and what's wrong". I just wish I could have known him as a friend and I'm sure most people here feel the same.----The Count

P.S. Before anyone takes umbrage at referring to Murbach as a curmudgeon it is A) an inside joke, B) meant as a compliment, & C) attaining the status of curmudgeon involves many things but not the least of them is authenticity. Terry was the real deal.

He was very 'direct' and as far as 'no sugar-coating' the best way to describe Terry just might be that he was about the exact opposite of today's sensitive little "snowflake" know-it-alls....

Thanks 30-30........I get bored easily. GunnyMack gave me the new handle. I spoke with Terry acouple months ago. Life was getting kinda tough for him. Sent him a few letters of encouragement. I heard a couple weeks ago he had fallen and injured himself. Christmas eve my daughter called and told me the bad news. I havebeen down in the Texas hill country and had no internet. My old friend is gone. Terry ... if you hear this, keep the campfire burning and the coffee hot. I will be along directly.

He posted on the Terry thread on the old board.

June 4.5,6 2009... the last time we were all together.
Sadly I remember the date well. The 6th I spent the morning with Frank H and learned my brother in law had died.

Well I just visited a little funstore that I have been going for 25 years at least and found out the owner, Steve, has lung cancer!
Dang it, nice feller, can talk the hind leg off a donkey but he is a heck of a gunsmith too.

Nath, it just isn't fair that good people get cancer. Prayers up for your friend.

I have traded emails with TM for several years. I was talking to Jeff Quinn on an email and said how much I liked his articles and would love to converse with him. The next thing I knew I had emails from Terry. What a great lot of fun he was to talk to. And a walking encyclopedia when it came to handguns. He even invited me to come to S. Dakota and stay with him. What an opportunity I missed.

I haven't heard from him in a while and he stopped answering emails and this is just what I expected. I bought several old Guns & Ammo mags and annuals off ebay just to have some of his articles. What a shame. I just sent him a couple of new emails 2 days ago because he liked the jokes I came up with.

All I can say is goodbye old friend. I treasure the time you took to converse with me.
