Here's some history on the Newtown rifle company. The 256 Newton could be called the father of the 25-06.

Darn near thought about bidding on it, but would need dies, brass and bullets. Sure would be a one and only wherever you took it! Todd/3leg

I think Ken Waters did a "Pet Loads" column on this cartridge at one time. Charles Newton was an interesting guy who really pushed the envelope.

The February issue of GUNS has an article about the .256, just got it today but I thumbed through it to the article. Apparently it was being used in Africa on a safari.
