Prayers please-pregnant family member

Post by fordwannabe »

I have a family member about 6 months along and she has been en hospitalized since yesterday because “ nothing is right”. She has had multiple miscarriages and we need some prayers to pull this baby through a rough patch. I know this group is some praying people so if ya got an extra prayer my relative in Tennessee sure could use a couple. Thanks.

Prayers up.

Mom (or Dad) may have a MTHFR SNP and that fix is so easy, but some ob-gyns don't know about it, and some only test the mom (which makes no sense, since it is the kid's genetics that matter). Best is to just give a prenatal vitamin like Thorne's, or use MethylGuard Plus, and not depend on testing other than to rule out other things. If you test you need to test for both 677 and 1298 substitutions.

About a third of us can't methylate the regular form of folic acid, so it doesn't protect against midline fusion defects in you're a fetal person (and leads to miscarriages). It also might be a reason to modify vaccination schedules (the vaccine preservative thimerosal is dealt with via methylation). Later in life we are more vulnerable to various cardiac and neurologic maladies, but again the fix is easy; just take all four methylating 'B' vitamins in their active forms. Thorne's MethylGuard Plus has them - pyridoxine 5 phosphate (not 'hydrochloride'), riboflavin 5 phosphate (not 'hydrochloride'), methyl- (not cyano-) cobalamin, and methyl- (not plain) folate. The reason all four are used is that we only have a good test for the folate pathway but if you treat that and ignore the others it doesn't help people with defects in the other pathways.

More info: https://youtu.be/QRHif2aVPvw

Like everything else 'new' some physicians either haven't heard of it or have heard of it but don't believe it is a significant issue. I think the evidence is increasingly on the side of treating it, especially since there is no evidence of any downside other then the slight cost of a different vitamin then you would get at the ordinary store.

(.... sorry for the sermon / lecture, but prayers up regardless....!)

Ford, she and the baby have my prayers, too. If she has to deliver early, it's a miracle what they can do in neonatal ICU these days.
And as Pete said, God bless you doc for sharing your wisdom with us.

Thank you all for the prayers, and Doc thanks for the info. I don’t want to try to outthink GOD and as in all things his will be done, but a bunch of old lever gunners asking for his grace might help things go our way.

By the way, do not trust that your big chain pharmacy will have or can order those versions of the vitamins for you. Go to a health food store and look for those versions. The folks at a health food store are more likely to know what you are asking about. I am a Pharmacist and cannot order the methyl folate except in certain multi vitamins that cost around $150 for 30 days and are prescription medical food.

Yep. When I first found out about this stuff, patients were going to CVS with my prescription (I didn't realize you could get it without a Rx), and they were paying $470/month for one of the products. Now there are better products out there for less than a tenth that much, such as the Thorne ones
(https://www.thorne.com/products/dp/meth ... d-plus-reg).

Well gentlemen, I was told that Louisa Rose arrived today only one month early and both Mother and child are doing well. Thank you for your prayers. She is the first woman child born to my Mother’s side of the family since Mom in 1945.

+1 on it being excellent news. Changing a few diapers and cooking a few meals so the mother can rest is a good idea. Real men can change a diaper and use a gun to protect the family.
I have 2 children and am proud to say that I changed diapers. I also fed both of them when they got a little older, although Momma fed them when they were newborn in a way that no man can do.

The family member is a cousin of mine and they had real concerns for this baby. With Gods grace all seems well. As for the diaper changing, I am the oldest of five kids AND we were a foster family for almost 15 years when I was growing up and a young man. I will put the number of diapers I have changed personally up against any man. They are however in Tennessee and I am in Pennsylvania.
Now in July I will be a Grandpa for the first time and I will be actively involved in diapers.
