Couple of New Pics of My 45 Colt Levers I Thought I'd Share

#1 Post by COSteve » Thu Dec 06, 2018 11:37 am

I didn't like the old pics I had of my Uberti 45 Colt levers I took back in 2013 laying on the carpet, so a few months back I took a couple new ones outside 'in the wild'. I think they turned out nice so, on this cold wintry day, I thought I'd share as a nice picture of a good looking firearm warms my heart.

My Uberti 1873 Special Sporting Rifle:

My Uberti 1866 Yellowboy Carbine:

Both are fun shooters and with my 255grn X-Treme plated handloads they both feed slick as snot and shoot great. I chrono'd my most recent handloads last September and it turns out that my Rifle produces 1,209fps with them while my Carbine produces 1,163fps. I was a bit surprised that with a load of Unique powder charge in an 'under 14,000psi load', the bullets are still accelerating even out of the 24" barrel.

Both leverguns are great fun out in the woods with my Uberti Cattleman SA Army, also in 45 Colt but shooting some 255grn Elmer Keith style hardcast lead bullets, strapped to my hip.

Very nice! The toggle rifles are really fun to shoot.

If you haven't tried Uberti's cool flip sight on their carbines, you're in for a treat. Folded down it works fine when sighted in for 100yds with my 255grn full power standard pressure 45 Colt loads.

Image

Flipped up it's a great 3 in 1 sight as the notch at the bottom of the oval is great for 200yds, the center works for 300yds, and the v at the top works for 400yds.

I must admit that I wanted both to be 44-40 but I sort of fell on the NIB '73 for a price I couldn't turn down at the time. After I got it, the dies, the components to handload for it, made up some practice loads and gave it a try, I decided that even though it was never built by Winchester chambered in 45 Colt, it was a sweet rifle. The next thing I knew I was looking for the carbine to go with it and I'll be darned if I didn't find one soon at my local shop that they'd ordered for someone who then backed out of the deal. They wanted it gone, I had some cash, so they took a bit of a loss, moved on, and I got a second killer deal.

Nice pics Steve and lovely rifles but I'm especially partial to your 6 shooter and it's leather. Who is the maker?

Clever and novel flip rear sight.

I have a similar handmade one on an 1861 springer that was said to be used for skirmisher themed target competition and regulated for 40 gr. ff and the 460 gr. lyman minie.

Thanks. You'll be surprised to find that my holster and belt are actually from Western and Wildlife Wonders and budget priced.

The holster & belt set is their Single Loop Holster for a .45 Colt SA Army length pistol with a Ranger Belt. I've had it since 2012 and it's a decent holster. Not fancy or ornate, just a good working rig. The set is currently priced at $137 HERE.

The first holster & belt set I bought from them was back in 2009 when I got my .357mag SA Cav. length pistol for my Rossi leverguns. It's a Lawman Holster with a Ranger Belt set. The set is currently priced at $126 HERE.
